To the DAO and the Ethereum community : Fuck you.

Saturday, 18 June, Year 8 d.Tr. | Author: Mircea Popescu

To the DAO and the Ethereum community,

I have carefully examined the code of The DAO and decided to participate after finding the feature where splitting is rewarded with additional ether. I have made use of this feature and have rightfully claimed 3,641,694 ether, and would like to thank the DAO for this reward. It is my understanding that the DAO code contains this feature to promote decentralization and encourage the creation of "child DAOs".

I am disappointed by those who are characterizing the use of this intentional feature as "theft". I am making use of this explicitly coded feature as per the smart contract terms and my law firm has advised me that my action is fully compliant with United States criminal and tort law. For reference please review the terms of the DAO:

"The terms of The DAO Creation are set forth in the smart contract code existing on the Ethereum blockchain at 0xbb9bc244d798123fde783fcc1c72d3bb8c189413. Nothing in this explanation of terms or in any other document or communication may modify or add any additional obligations or guarantees beyond those set forth in The DAO’s code. Any and all explanatory terms or descriptions are merely offered for educational purposes and do not supercede or modify the express terms of The DAO’s code set forth on the blockchain; to the extent you believe there to be any conflict or discrepancy between the descriptions offered here and the functionality of The DAO’s code at 0xbb9bc244d798123fde783fcc1c72d3bb8c189413, The DAO’s code controls and sets forth all terms of The DAO Creation."

A soft or hard fork would amount to seizure of my legitimate and rightful ether, claimed legally through the terms of a smart contract. Such fork would permanently and irrevocably ruin all confidence in not only Ethereum but also the in the field of smart contracts and blockchain technology. Many large Ethereum holders will dump their ether, and developers, researchers, and companies will leave Ethereum. Make no mistake: any fork, soft or hard, will further damage Ethereum and destroy its reputation and appeal.

I reserve all rights to take any and all legal action against any accomplices of illegitimate theft, freezing, or seizure of my legitimate ether, and am actively working with my law firm. Those accomplices will be receiving Cease and Desist notices in the mail shortly.

I hope this event becomes an valuable learning experience for the Ethereum community and wish you all the best of luck.

Yours truly,
"The Attacker"

PS. You probably want to revisit the 2013 discussion of "Ripple". Just because you idiots changed the name doesn't mean anything changed! Just how hard is it to grok this utterly banal point ?

PPS. Since so many people have asked : yes, there are more. This definitely isn't the only hole in the pile of shit, but in the immortal words of Jerry Seinfeld,

i-got-another-one

If it was, then I support a fork just to fuck him over. Mircea is a douchebag scammer asshole, and I will sacrifice the value of my ETH to ruin him.

Meanwhile back at the ranch,

I can't wait for their next move. Hard fork and they admit their smart contracts are just a contract at the court of some Russian kid. Don't fork and they admit that smart contracts are insecure and they've spent years wanking off to disruptionist buzzword porn while not having any idea how to make anything actually work.

  17. Actually your logic is flawed...the concept behind the system is based on consensus of the investing community to fund legitimate start up projects...when investors bought DAO they we're buying under the idea of funding a start up...not funding your lifestyle. So by taking it upon yourself to draft a rogue fictitious entity in order to receive a positive gain solely to play "Rockstar" is actually theft by deceptive means because you're not using it for a legitimate start up. In a way it's not all bad... you DID expose a significant flaw in the system so that these illegal actions cannot be done in the future. But your attempts to justify you actions will fall on deaf ears as you and associates will be seen as nothing more then Crooks and scammers...you're the same as Paul Vernon, Mark Karpeles, and others like them. But again parasites like yourself are a needed thing so that dev teams can insure the integrity of the system as a whole from people like you. Good luck getting the ether cashed out anywhere because I would recommend the Crypto community as a whole seek immediate legal actions against any/all exchanges and or services that accept and attempt to convert the eth in question....you made your point...the system as flaws...why not simply do the right thing and return the ETH to it's rightful owners for it's intended purpose....

  35. I fully support ANY operation that exploit DAO and ETHEREUM code.

In my opinion he can rightly claim his "reward" since the CONTRACT of the DAO was allow him to do that.

If they are stupid childs that are not able to create a good code that cannot be so easly abuse, then, THEY should PUT/REFUND all the money that they "super smart contract" lost.

    Simply and straightforwar.

If you wanted a "bank" (that with the board direction) is able to revert transaction, well, you have plenty of them out there.

@Tom Anderson There's been a lot of pivotal moments to date. Such as the time MPOE-PR called out the pirate ponzi by her lonesome, or the time I broke the "Bitcoin Banking Cartel" or the times I saved teh Bitcoin (financially in March 2013, politically in January 2015 etc), or the time I put the kaibosh on Mt Gox, or or or. There's no shortage of pivotal moments, that's the point of history, it keeps flowing pivots down the river. Now quit dicking around and do something useful.

    1. Is the method you employed to 'withdraw' funds from the DAO the exact same recursive call which was due to be fixed, you know, after a couple of weeks of asking people to file any objections to a proposed fix and, thus, resorting to simply hoping nobody actually utilised the widely-discussed exploit in the meantime?

@BingoBoingo Did you just pun on gag ?!

    @jaumenuez, Ravi Bhojwani Cheers.

@cryptodevil Vitalik Buterin is a an empty shithead. This literally means that where human beings normally carry gray matter, he instead used to carry brown matter, but it was taken out. So now his strangely shaped skull is just a foul smelling empty receptacle.

He's not the only one in this situation. Gavin Andersen is exactly the same item. Item, you understand, not a person but an object, not a sort of man but a sort of table. The list of examples goes on and on : Meni Rosenfeld, fronting for "Bitdaytrade" (the "Bcrypt safest option on the market" lolfest), or the Cypruss University head of the CS department who, stupidly, vouched for the Neobee scam, and so ad infinitum.

Groups of scammers use these idiots, exactly like you would use a table, exactly like the 'Ndrangheta used that Josh Zerlan muppet (inadvertently also exposed one of their people, an ex-con caught violating the terms of his parole by the name Sonny Vleisides).

In the case of Ripple, the group of scammers was just that, a criminal gang. In the case of Doge the group of scammers was just a bunch of marketing retards of the "apple could buy Russia" school of twitterthought. In the case of Ether, the group of scammers is the USG, through their MIT agency.

A group of scammers is still a group of scammers, the USG doesn't have some sort of holy water sprinkler up on Capitol Hill that allows it to throw some "we represent" dust on scams and make them legit. This used to work, which is how Bernie Madoff went to jail for running the US Social Security pyramid scheme, but Carolyn W. Colvin is not in jail for running the Carolyn W. Colvin Investment Securities LLC pyramid scheme ; and which is also how the USG stole people's money because "right to self determination" means you can promise and then self-determine not to pay anymore ; and on and on and on.

Nevertheless, Bitcoin (no, not "cryptocurrencies", there is not nor can ever be such a thing as "cryptocurrencies") has put an end to all that. So it dun work no more.

Does that answer your question ?

  62. I figure if representative felicity is a thing, why not representative caek?

  63. If you have control of the child DAO - I notice you have donated to good causes since I am an optometrist I help people I enjoy it - how do you see bitcoin ( include the child DAO funds if you choose ) as a force for good and what we do to assist . Your comments certainly are making me think .. Goxxed and DAO'd - a pattern is developing here and you are shining a light on this shitstorm . I would like to help people .. It would be disgraceful for him ending up being paid by Circle, Ethereum or similar scammers.

  67. Hi,
First of all, I own no virtual currency and have not lost/win anything here but watch all this with interest. if I had any movie making skills, I would make a movie of it.
    And I have a question,
What you have done may be legal, so maybe you have the law on your side to keep the money and sue people who want to get it back. The code doesn't care if it's fair or not, that's true. But real people care if it feels fair to them and real people don't always care about the law. Thousand of people have lost money. Some of them have lost thousands of potential dollars. And now you own millions of potential dollars.
If you are the guy who took 30% of the DAO are you not afraid of becoming the focus point for the hate and greed of thousands ? Are you not afraid of the real world coming for you and punching you in the real face if you keep the money ?
Sometimes great intelligence is coupled with a form of arrogance, be careful not underestimating/overestimating one of these.
    Cheers,

@kreso The reason you & everyone else knows today that Craig Wright is a muppet is because I said he is a muppet in #trilema back then. Gavin for instance said he's genuine, but that didn't matter, for the usual reason : what I say trumps what he, and any other USG asset ever said or ever could say.

Which is why it's perfectly fine if the guy ends up paid by whatever "venture capital" shitshow. He was paid by the exact same outfit from the very beginning.

@akad You should read the The definitive tract on sociopathy. That way you'll learn that the correct magic formula is "people themselves" not "real people" or whatever.

A side dish of the fallout from the Fetlife drama is probably also indicated, at the very least the part that goes

IV. Frantic activity is not much of a cover-up for impotence. The true driver of all this "we protest Trilema for making a fool of Fetlife" is exactly the same mental process that drives "Dancing Man", and "kickstarter successes" where some randomly selected derp gets paid a chunk of change for inventing a can of Pepsi or whatever : the derps wish to convince the world, and in convincing the world convince themselves that their appreciation is valuable, and their displeasure dangerous. Because if it were the case that indeed their upvote was worth something, and their downvote had some sort of impact, then they themselves could be said to have value. Some, perhaps not much, but some. Some! Which some is a whole heck of a lot better than none whatsoever, which just so happens to be the case.

  69. I first heard about this website around time mt.gox was going to blow, not surprisingly mainstream bitcoin is incredible increasingly moronic so the ''MP effect'' was bound to happen and like the Ripple fiasco, the attempts to fork bitcoin and real nature of Gavin, I expected to read about Ethereum imploding here someday, was not disappointed. Of course I kept myself far away from ETH to even profit from this mess, I watched the thing from the IPO to the long development to the inevitable lulz. There is but a handful of people that are able to do something like this but if I were to thank you for something its for saving openbsd.

Yes I am agreeing with you. What I am not agreeing with is if you support Blockstream's clusterfuck centralization Troika of SegWit, Sidechains, and LN, and being in bed with the Chinese mining cartel in order to maximize transaction fees.

You are correct about everything except that BitCON is failing your ideals.

I was basing that on a statement in the attacker's interview where the attacker refers to some developers of Blockstream in a positive light. If I assumed too much from that, then my apology.

The white hat counter-attack outsmarted you. Why you didn't drain the entire DAO.

I have no problem with the white hat counter-attack, if that avoids a fork. And this did sort of show the true colors of Vitalik and Wood being disrespectful of hands off decentralized, trustless protocol.

It would have more satisfying had you REKT those two buffoons.

So if you are serious about decentralization and challenging this shit from Ethereum and Blockstream, we can talk in private. Do you do cryptocat or what do you prefer?

@Edward Vickery With quite some regularity, actually. Heck, even the current header is shot on the Bosphorus, if memory serves.

@Pavlovski There are no "outlets" for Ethereum altogether. So don't ask me how am ~I~ going to cash in. Ask any of the muppets, like the "normal people with family" at #75 above, the question's a lot more interesting to them.

    To quote the logs,

Eth is the LEAST aggregate market I've ever seen, which is why I never recommend people to short it. The price is controlled by one single guy who runs the bots on Bologniex tied to either the Ethereum developers themselves, or some entity like Goldman Sachs. Ever since Bitcoin started to rise, I watched them absorb something like 5000-10,000 BTC in Eth dumps on Poloniex just trying to prop the price up and prevent it from imploding.

The DOA event caused a dumpocalypse on them forcing them to absorb even more losses. This single entity that controls the ETh price is underwater as fuck now and probably desperate to rid himself of some of those scamtokens. I have a feeling the only reason it made it that high of value in the first place is the Eth devs themselves sent a bunch of Eth to Poloniex, then used those coins for collateral to margin long it to the moon while liquidating shoters. Dan Larimer actually talked about attempting doing that himself once in the past when BTS was in the dumpster but he chickened out. Him and Vitalik have been speaking a bit these days and maybe he gave Vitalik the idea.

You understand this, finally ? NO ONE is "cashing out" of Ethereum. Not ever. There's no value in to cash out of.

If anyone's doing any cashing out, it certainly as sure as fuck is not going to be random derps who believe if it's on a website it's true much like their bovine grandparents believed that if it's in the newspaper then it's real. You're the quarry here, nothing else, nothing more. Don't spend the little CPU time your barely functional head makes available to you on worrying about my ass. Worry about yours.

@Gypsy Neckbeard It's funny you schmucks weren't all over this broken narrative back when I publicly dumped Fetlife. Or Literotica. Or PBNation. Or or or, of the dozen+ published and the many dozens unpublished or unclaimed. Where was your need of "signatures" then, derpy ?

Pity about the football, I was going to invite you to play with my ex-patriate team in Ferikoy, near Taksim. You couldn't do worse than the Romanian team at Euro 2016 ;)

Anyway, one question that I have for you is about Coinbase. I have had an account there in both the US and the UK for 3 years which I used to transfer money without paying wire fees and the occasional investment as I saw the BTC price trending upward. All of a sudden when BTC passed from $300 to $400 last month and I saw a trend and made purchase orders, they blocked them and asked for more ID verification (on both my UK and US Coinbase site coincidentally). I provided the IDs and they delayed me. They failed to honour the trades because the price was rising so fast and then when I sent them an email asking why, they closed down both my accounts. Similar mis-treatment has happened to some of my friends too. Do you know a better alternative? BTC can't really go mainstream with behaviour like this from some of its major players against clients' interests.

One last thing, I saw your article related to your 0.1 BTC offer for the photos. I think to improve the quality of the photos (;) you could offer more than 0.1 BTC and I will contribute to that too if I can figure out a way to buy BTC again before the price hits $10 000 a BTC!

    > They failed to honour the trades because the price was rising so fast and then

This is very common practice among the scam fiat exchanges (which is every website without exception).

    > Do you know a better alternative?

The WoT is the only alternative. Why would you use a government item to trade Bitcoin anyway ?

    > BTC can't really go mainstream with behaviour like this from some of its major players against clients' interests.

First of all, BTC is already mainstream. It has been, for years - in any case no later than October 2013.

Second of all, fiat exchanges are no part of Bitcoin. It's not that they're not major players. It that they are not players. At all.

    > you could offer more than 0.1 BTC

Nah, actually, I'm going to lower it to 2 bitcents soon. Tits are cheap and will get cheaper, bear this in mind.

The car, much like my slavegirl, is a physical object, which exists independently of you knowing anything or thinking anything. There's an actual, ontological sphere, including the actual color of the car, and a hallucinated, gnoseologic sphere, including what you may think the color of the car is. This latter has no power over the former, the car is going to stay blue whether you dream it red or orange.

The scamcoin, on the other hand, whether you call call it "Ethereum" or "The Dao" or as you called it before "Ripple" or as you also called it before that "Colored Coins" or whatever other words you may call it is - much like your girlfriend - not a physical object, and consequently does not exist independent of being known.

To learn by example, "The US Government is solvent" is a kind of proposition, not a kind of car.

The car you can drive around, and also has a color, which you may describe, and about which you may be correct.

"The US Government is solvent" however is merely a proposition. It may be correct, or it may be false, but you can not eat it, nor can you crash it into a wall.

This given, your assumption that if the car is open, you can help yourself to the contents is entirely your problem. It is in no way part of what the car is, it is entirely your own, wholly hallucinated, interpretation of the car. It may be right in some contexts and wrong in some contexts, but whatever may be the case, it fails to attach itself to the car.

Meanwhile, the fact that The Dao works in the manner that if you can take it, it's yours, is the entirety of its existence. It doesn't have a wheel or an engine, all it has is its notional content, and that notional content is chiefly composed of "here's this new doohickey we invented - it is different from the other doohickeys because with this one, what you can take is yours".

Now quit with the butthurt and get lost, I have no idea why they taught you to read and write, but it was clearly a mistake, the whole thinking thing's not adequate to your capacities. Car engines and grease buckets await!

    >"More recent records show that an IP-address linked to KAT’s Facebook page was also used to access Vaulin’s Coinbase account, suggesting that the Bitcoin wallet also assisted in the investigation."

“Notably, IP address 78.108.178.77 accessed the KAT Facebook Account about a dozen times in September and October 2015. This same IP Address was used to login to Vaulin’s Coinbase account 47 times between on or about January 28, 2014, through on or about November 13, 2014.”

  134. Based on the investigation, and under the facts presented, the Commission has determined that DAO Tokens are securities under the Securities Act of 1933 (“Securities Act”) and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 (“Exchange Act”). 1 The Commission deems it appropriate and in the public interest to issue this report of investigation (“Report”) pursuant to Section 21(a) of the Exchange Act 2 to advise those who would use a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (“DAO Entity”), or other distributed ledger or blockchain-enabled means for capital raising, to take appropriate steps to ensure compliance with the U.S. federal securities laws. All securities offered and sold in the United States must be registered with the Commission or must qualify for an exemption from the registration requirements. In addition, any entity or person engaging in the activities of an exchange must register as a national securities exchange or operate pursuant to an exemption from such registration.

Via "SEC" release dated July 25, 2017. Ahem, didjaknow ?

  135. Continued...

In light of the facts and circumstances, the agency has decided not to bring charges in this instance, or make findings of violations in the Report, but rather to caution the industry and market participants: the federal securities laws apply to those who offer and sell securities in the United States, regardless whether the issuing entity is a traditional company or a decentralized autonomous organization, regardless whether those securities are purchased using U.S. dollars or virtual currencies, and regardless whether they are distributed in certificated form or through distributed ledger technology.

Which is obviously meant to read as, "We could've totally made the DAO durrps comply with us but we just chose not to, it's not that we're totally impotent and in waaay over our heads, trust us fur realz, we're actually just nice guys sometimes" but in point of fact sounds an awful lot more like the bureauweasel equivalent of the junior high rationalisation that "Jaime is totally a slut but I'm not really into that kinda girl, but I could totes still have her if I wanted, I just don't wanna."

Yesterday while I was at work my little brother stole my iPad and "tested" to see if it can survive a drop by throwing it out the window of our apartment on the 7th floor. Just so he can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now broken and he has 83 views.

I want you to be my little brother instead.
