mircea_popescu coingenuity https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=54957.msg1404011#msg1404011 [05:59]
dub https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=131156.0 [06:00]
dub he must have some broke ass friends if anyone is going to jump at $1 [06:00]
mircea_popescu moreover, i'd be surprised if 1 in 10`000 facebook accounts actually has a human being behind them [06:01]
mircea_popescu what he did is basically akin to generating a number of random email addresses, sending them mail, waiting for answers. [06:01]
coingenuity mircea_popescu: i've already had my staff contact him, one of them got a tongue-lashing for not following my instructions to do it a long time ago [06:01]
dub well, all of my fb friends are real [06:01]
dub on my real fb account that is ;) [06:01]
coingenuity thanks for the heads up, though [06:02]
mircea_popescu a ok [06:02]
mircea_popescu dub lol. POINT IN CASE [06:03]
coingenuity mircea_popescu: i actually just gave the staff member in question a tongue lashing about this [06:03]
coingenuity he's in trouble now >.> [06:03]
dub mircea_popescu likes to tounge lash his employees too [06:03]

mircea_popescu coingenuity the risk is always that there's going to be some unhappy customer wedged into some obscure corner [06:04]
mircea_popescu so if i see something i say something sorta thing [06:04]
mircea_popescu i know it costs me plenty of money to try and keep on top of things and i'm only moderately successful at it. [06:05]
coingenuity mircea_popescu: actually, he's high on my priority list- the manufacturer of the product he ordered has been doing a total restructuring of their supply chain so i'm having to work with their delay [06:05]
coingenuity the issue is that i told my staff to tell him what was going on, but they failed to do so and now he's worried [06:05]
coingenuity either way, the person in charge of talking to him has been yelled at, that customer will be sorted shortly [06:06]
coingenuity (it should also be noted that he's the only cust still waiting on that product, we luckily had hundreds of oz on hand when the manufacturer took a dump so caught the delay preemptorily) [06:07]
coingenuity needless to say, i am far from amused with that particular manufacturer at the moment >.> [06:07]
assbot [MPEX] [S.MPOE] 4300 @ 0.00062896 = 2.7045 BTC [+] [06:08]
coingenuity and, i appreciate you bringing it to my attention, as always- i keep tabs personally on every single order so if someone starts to feel neglected, i like to hear about it [06:08]

mircea_popescu excitement [07:20]
mircea_popescu As many of you know, I'm reaching 18 years old this year, and even though the Bitcoinica venture was extremely exciting and eye-opening for a teenager, I have to admit that I could have displayed a higher level of maturity and professionalism in some matters. [07:21]
mircea_popescu Also, I also have to admit that a lot of the business circumstances were well beyond my scope of understanding. I assure you that I have learned the relevant lessons and I will do a much better job in my next project — NameTerrific. [07:21]

thestringpuller volume, chains expect a certain price [21:07]
smickles large amounts should just shift their timescales beyond their own expected lifetime [21:07]
thestringpuller start small and move up [21:07]
thestringpuller for instance with the cocoa example [21:07]
thestringpuller most people who would want end-user procurement of a commodities contract would be someone likely to distribute to a small coffee shop [21:07]

thestringpuller err [21:08]
thestringpuller over 1%* [21:08]

thestringpuller but I suppose if someone who had a future that matured and had a distribution network may want delivery [21:10]
thestringpuller but I'm more talking about being able to purchase commodites at a market price via btc [21:10]
mircea_popescu what sense does it make to have a centralised spot market when nobody can take centralised delivery ? [21:10]
mircea_popescu spot markets evolved historically and make sense in conjunction with a delivery spot. [21:10]

mircea_popescu basically this'd be more like bitmit for cocoa [21:12]

gribble You are not identified. [21:12]
jurov oh and i *swear* i saw X.IDIFF.SEP selling for 2 satoshi, but once i got ahold of my coinbr acct, it vanished [21:12]
mircea_popescu which isn't a bad thing, but it doesn't make sense to lump it all under a generic name [21:12]
* asa1024 has quit (Quit: asa1024) [21:13]
thestringpuller in a sense it wouldn't but in a sense it would? [21:13]
thestringpuller the example I mulled around in my head was a case where MPEX would have a listing for something like Cocoa [21:13]
assbot [MPEX] [S.MPOE] 4321 @ 0.0006232 = 2.6928 BTC [+] [21:14]
thestringpuller that listing would correlate to any number of suppliers that constitute a BTC union [21:14]
thestringpuller so there would be likely 2 factors in pricing: geographical location of the supplier (i.e. freight) and 2. the base price the supplier is offering on his commodities [21:15]
mircea_popescu which is what makes this slightly inadequate for a spot-type exchange traded thing [21:15]

thestringpuller i feel like chicago has a lot of train yards and people deal with it there [21:16]

thestringpuller thus someone in istaanbuul can sell columbian coffee to spoiled americans [21:19]

thestringpuller mircea_popescu: i feel like your example is indicating arbitrage is built in [21:28]
thestringpuller what if there was an exchange at each supplier [21:29]
thestringpuller like with spot exchanges (like CME I guess), wouldn't one supply shortage result in some trader doing argritrage? [21:29]
mircea_popescu if he can transport it. [21:29]
mircea_popescu arbitrage is meaningless if you can't close the cycle. [21:30]

mircea_popescu no thestringpuller. the main issue is that a single price is meaningless for a fragmented set of random submarkets. [21:34]
