ascii_bolivia i am almost disappointed at the lack of 'massage' in the airport - even brought special computer, holding no secrets, expecting it to be imaged at the conveyor [00:20]

mircea_popescu delectably ? [00:26]
ascii_bolivia not quite. [00:26]
mircea_popescu hey, im stuffing myself with black forest and cognac over here, can't say i don't feel for you. [00:26]

ascii_bolivia mircea_popescu: this was abundantly obvious to unarmed eye from airplane window [00:29]
ascii_bolivia bolivia looks quite like north kr, for instance [00:29]
mircea_popescu but hey, at least they've got no soldering irons naimean ? [00:30]
mircea_popescu it is exactly nr, if the escaped chicks i met are to be believed. [00:30]
mircea_popescu economy crashed and burned, people sorta-halfassed rebelled, military steamrolled them and that "took care of it" [00:30]
mircea_popescu no everyone's waiting "for things to improve". you know, like things do. [00:31]
mircea_popescu by themselves. [00:31]
ascii_bolivia i know a fella from there in meatspace. goes back, forth. [00:31]
mircea_popescu prolly for the cheap cunt. [00:31]

ascii-bolivia do these folks not get spam ? [00:40]
mircea_popescu ah. well he principally comes off as dumber than a box of dumb bells because he starts from what he wants the facts to say and then forces some sort of factoids into that. [00:41]
mircea_popescu like that joke about the policemen. [00:41]
mircea_popescu holy shit. apparently online en dictionaries have lost a meaning of sufficient. [00:42]
mircea_popescu to be sufficient is to be ignorant and disinterested in the matter, yo! [00:42]

ascii-bolivia i still can't figure out if these astonishing specimens actually -believe- ... this - or merely pretend [00:46]
mircea_popescu mats dude those things look vulnerable as all shit. [00:47]
mircea_popescu seriously, this is how it works ? mounted repeating tinycannon on an open truck chassis ? [00:48]
ascii-bolivia what they believe - or pretend to - if one were to dignify it with a reduction to logical terms which make sense to a normal person, is: that usg is sorta like a searchlight, that cannot cover the whole universe simultaneously but can certainly be pointed at miscreants as need be, when their turn comes [00:48]
mircea_popescu what happens if someone throws them a frag ? [00:48]
mats they are vulnerable [00:48]
mircea_popescu so how do they work ? [00:49]
ascii-bolivia mircea_popescu: 'what happens if' was probably omitted from consideration because 'orc could never get close enough' [00:49]
mats lotta dudes died taking and holding baghdad and fallujah [00:49]
ascii-bolivia just as the $maxint single-shot chemical laser that fits in most of a 'boeing' is vulnerable to nothing more than frag [00:49]
mircea_popescu so basically what is this stupid shit, "we never heard of petain" ? [00:49]
mircea_popescu "we can conquer any position but we need someone to hold our wiener if we take a leak" ? [00:50]
mats yeah. it was early and us mil hadn't had to take and hold a city in some time [00:51]
mircea_popescu sucks. [00:51]

mats yeah. add some jamming and sensing equipment. [00:59]
mircea_popescu why not just add six inches of composite armor sandwiched between steel plate and tracks ? [01:00]
mats because insurgents change up the targeting [01:00]
mircea_popescu what the fuck are they going to do ? [01:00]
mats e.g. piling on explosives next to highway barriers to direct blast against the side of the vehicle [01:01]
mats and use command det instead [01:01]
mike_c williamdunne: yes. [01:01]
mircea_popescu you can actually make vehicle so tough that no blast can do anything but move it [01:02]
mike_c pop by c3 for a demo. or wait til next week. [01:02]
mircea_popescu and at 10-20 tons... they'll just blow out the barrier instead [01:02]

mircea_popescu (the sikriti io kept waiting for the us to open up - all the upset @ russia is over the rape they're delivering to us army via proxy in mid east) [01:03]
mats which is what the netting is for [01:03]
mircea_popescu would-liquify not really. people routinely survive 6g. calculate the blast that will accelerate a 10 ton apv at 6g [01:03]
would-liquify eh, nets just resulted in tandem warheads [01:03]

would-liquify mircea_popescu: sure it does. visit the drooling patients. [01:04]
would-liquify it not only gets inside, [01:04]
mircea_popescu i meant inside the vehicle. [01:04]
would-liquify but skullcase acts as a waveguide for it [01:04]
would-liquify i spoke with a fella who had a very interesting, and - as far as i could surmise, accurate - machine model for it [01:05]
would-liquify on the purely overpressure end of things - throwing the tank four stories high and letting the contents 'splat' also works. [01:06]

would-liquify decade?! [01:07]
mats relegated to route clearance instead of hunting enemy [01:07]
would-liquify when did sappers hunt anything [01:08]
mircea_popescu would-liquify calculate the blast nbeeded to launch tank those 10 meters high [01:08]
mircea_popescu tank, generously, 10 tons. [01:08]
mircea_popescu rather than 45. [01:08]
mats i don't know all that much about sappers historically [01:08]
would-liquify mircea_popescu: standard 20kg charge ? [01:08]
mircea_popescu um. [01:08]
* would-liquify not sapper [01:08]
mats i was personally trained to fight in urban environments and handle demo [01:09]
mircea_popescu nope. a 20kg charge will lift a single 10 ton slab about a foot. [01:09]
mats and some mine clearance here and there [01:09]
mircea_popescu fracture it, if it fractures, yes. but lift it 10 meters ? hardly./ [01:09]
would-liquify it would be interesting to calculate the optimum here from first principles [01:09]
mircea_popescu it would. [01:09]
mats no crawling around trenches, emplacing c wire, wutever [01:09]
would-liquify but i do not know enough about the energy transfer [01:09]
mircea_popescu because you realise, most of the pressure escapes to sides [01:09]
mircea_popescu less resistance [01:09]
mircea_popescu and the higher it gets - exponentially more so. [01:10]

mircea_popescu mats did you ever get any good at it ? [01:11]
mircea_popescu i assume so, seieng how you're here to tell the story [01:12]
would-liquify but i will let mats and the folks who dug them in & out for a living, answer [01:12]
mircea_popescu unlike a bunch of others. [01:12]
mats i spent a few hundreds hours in a shoothouse [01:12]
mircea_popescu would-liquify but you can make armor so that no jet of hot metal cuts it, period. [01:12]
mats i think so, yes [01:12]
would-liquify mircea_popescu: nope. unless you are thinking of reactive armour [01:12]
mircea_popescu i am. [01:12]
mats never deployed tho sadly [01:12]
mircea_popescu what i said : ceramics sandwhiched in steel. [01:12]
would-liquify (shaped charge can exceed bond energy for whatever substance) [01:13]
mircea_popescu the idea here being : us has the capacity to make purpose built item : too heavy armor for available weapons. [01:13]

williamdunne BingoBoingo: Would that not be a problem with any sufficiently large platform? [22:19]
BingoBoingo williamdunne: Well yes. Once Bitcoin started getting its value up, Seals started sucking really fast. [22:19]
williamdunne Sucks seems like it should be relative when talking about a specific company in an industry, wouldn't it be fairer to say "online poker sucks"? [22:20]
BingoBoingo Well sucks compared to my early experiences with the platform. [22:21]

BingoBoingo Early on after I discovered it full or near full tables at any stakes, sometimes long but reasonable wait times. Some of the dumbest people would play any stakes giving a reasonable chance to make some bank. One night drinking with some friends they wanted to see Bitcoin Gambling and I acidentalied my way from 0.25 BTC to 4BTC on seals in about 45 minutes. Cjust changing stakes as I had the bankroll to do so. [22:24]
SquirtPrincess thxs <3 [22:25]
BingoBoingo Later... Empty tables... Tables nowhere near full... Some stakes not being plaid at all. The generous marks replaced by botters not given to trashtalk. [22:25]
williamdunne SquirtPrincess: Welcome [22:25]
williamdunne BingoBoingo: Thats a profitable evening [22:26]
BingoBoingo It was. Seals for a brief period of time was a fun frontier shithole. Then Bitcoin went up and... Suddenly it wasn't the frontier no more. [22:27]
BingoBoingo Anyways back then it was like making $80 on $5 [22:27]
williamdunne BingoBoingo: What is a $? ;) [22:27]

williamdunne Watching some show about drug enforcement, the woman is quite insufferable. They keep discussing how dangerous drugs are and talking through how some of the worst things happened like cutting etc and each and every time it has been some sort of government action. Still can't put one plus one together. [22:37]
