S.MPOE is one year old

Wednesday, 24 April, Year 5 d.Tr. | Author: Mircea Popescu

That's right, it was listed on April 11, 2012.

One thing worth pointing out is it didn't go bankrupt. Indeed it paid a grand total of 19`268.964751 BTC in dividends to date. This sets a few records which the fiat world has yet to even vaguely get close to, as far as I know (please do correct me if you know better) :

There's not that many fiat world start-ups that go to IPO within 8 months of being founded.

Of which not that many achieve a market cap over 5% of the M3i within the first year.
There's not that many fiat start-ups that are profitable in their first month of operation.

Of which not that many pay a shade under 20k BTC in dividendsii in their first year.

A total of 572`999`419 shares changed hands during this past year, which is just a little over half the total issued. The total value of these exchanges is 278`878.68586427 BTC, putting the one year average share price just a shade under 0.0005 BTC per share.

On a personal note I'd like to add that I'm quite pleased with the howling success my first BTC venture turned out to be, that I hope it works well as a model for others trying to construct their own success as well as a measuring stick to know when they're there, and finally that I hope and intend for things to not end here.

  1. If you go by M3 comparisons, S.MPOE is currently worth something upwards of a trillion dollars in BTC. If you prefer the "exchange rate" approach, ~700k BTC equate ~ 100 million dollars. []
  2. Currently exchange-valued a little above 3mn USD. []

Ty ty. Plz insert cake disc 2.

  3. Congratulations! On your tenth anniversary, you will still be ten years ahead of the rest.

  4. I look at this as a (successful) proof of concept. My question is, how scalable is it? I don't think it's unrealistic to expect notional value, as well as number of customers, to increase by orders of magnitude in the coming year. What if anything will need to evolve, in terms of technology and business plan, to handle that level of activity?

@Irdial It can't stay that bad for the love of christ. By then we'll have Wall Street on Bitcoin and whatnot.

@Zeke Vermillion Pretty scalable in all points, as it was designed with that in mind from the beginning.

The trade engine is specced for subsecond lags and so it's not great (it's wunderbar by current Bitcoin standards, of course, but still) but it can be trivially replaced. The messaging system scales pretty much to infinity. There will probably arise all sorts of issues and roadblocks down the way, but of the tactical rather than the strategic sort I would think.
