The trade engine is specced for subsecond lags and so it's not great (it's wunderbar by &lt;a href=http://polimedia.us/dtng/c/src/136562118454.png &gt;current Bitcoin standards&lt;/a&gt;, of course, but still) but it can be trivially replaced. The messaging system scales pretty much to infinity. There will probably arise all sorts of issues and roadblocks down the way, but of the tactical rather than the strategic sort I would think.</description>

I don't think it's unrealistic to expect notional value, as well as number of customers, to increase by orders of magnitude in the coming year.
