Trilema altogether no longer showing ?
The whole "fuck leechers" thing worked while it worked ; but apparently the recent republican closure made Trilema ever more popular, to the point of choking my server.
I've had to restart apache to increase servlets/workers (apologies for the brief downtime earlier, but apparently 512 wasn't nearly fucking enough, so now running with 8k i), which helps somewhat. But ever since...

Do the math if ye fucking will, what's 100GB / 25 minutes come to ? Anything like ~170 monthly TB ? So... yeah, I'm back where I was a year, five quarters ago : da fuck am I going to do, this is about as much as this server can take, it's arrived at ye PSF : if I increase servlets the average processing time increases as well, this machine can pump out 1500-2k reqs/s and that's it, that's what it can do, fiddle knobs as ye will.
Unlike a year ago, however, I see no simple solution. 40kb average request is indicative of... you know, people reading, what am I going to do, not let them ? I suppose I should have pushed the originally intended multi-server thing I was discussing with lobbes last year more decisively, but honestly...
If in the future you end up having to queue to read Trilema, it'll just be a natural continuation of living in the free world, don't you find ?

This blog alone shouldn't produce that amount of traffic at all as it kinda has rather low activity (no daily multi posting or hundreds of comments) and overall no heavy assets like images or music/vids. So unless you're using that server for other things too (like your mmo etc), then a free host should have sufficed for it. Something happened on 6th April because my traffic spiked from 300-400 visitors to over one million, meaning about 4GB of data per single day now (and that's on the low thanks to CloudFlare savings due to caching), for website full of assets and web based video game. I'm guessing you have quite a bit of haters or something and yeah, you're being attacked now more than ever. It usually doesn't hurt to set up CloudFlare for websites to get some caching and protection against DDOS-ing.

Your reaction is just as expected. Don't get drunk on Kool-Aid, was somewhat hoping you would be better than that :D You're good at math, do some calculations. You keep saying that largest blog stuff but don't confuse bot traffic with real visitors that are able to actually read and engage. I'm not here to dis or attack you, but I've seen popular websites/blogs and it's easy to tell. Just saying you should "watch your back" cause something strange is going on and it started to affect me too as collateral damage. Get past your ego issues already, they keep you from achieving real greatness.
I had a WordPress blog as well that got super popular with just one tutorial blog post. The problem is that I got hacked twice, once by Russians and once by Chinese, finding completely different website in place each time, hence why I quit using that stuff altogether and wrote my next websites from scratch. Just like Windows OS, WordPress is prone to negative attention and hacks (it gets bot traffic just by being), due to it's market share, as they say first thing on their website, it powers 36% of the internet. Basic idea is that there are efficient tools out there, easy to get, that can be used to poke at websites, especially ones run by controversial people that tend to be eccentric/rude/egotistic. Lots of envious angry trolls out there set to be malicious, especially if they get their feelings hurt.

It appears someone gives himself too much importance (this was obvious to me fast anyway since years ago) and got butthurt easily it seems (my apologies for that, I'm not always very diplomatic, at times I have a rude and straight honest side). There's barely anything around here to read overall tbh, mostly arrogance with a tad of smart stuff into it here and there. Don't be so full of yourself ;-)
You're clearly delusional if you think a little text website would consume that amount of bandwidth. Don't worry about me, I read and write super fast. I do value my time greatly, so yeah, this is a bit unproductive. I'll just block referral traffic from here and get on with it, because unlike you, I find proper solutions to the problems, instead of allocating more ram to the server :D
I suggest you block traffic from India, Brazil and Spain for a while, as most of it is from there. Peace.

In other useful tidbits : if
then you're in luck : it's all a configuration problem.
Your default linux kernel is not really configured to deal with lots of different IPs connecting. Simply issuing sysctl -w net.netfilter.nf_conntrack_max=262144 as root fixed my problem (the default value is 65536, which, admittedly, is enough for most everyone). Edit sysctl.conf to make it sticky.

@pletzalcoatl merits? what fucking merits? I was basically getting my server nuked because I took the time years ago to leave a comment on this semi deserted place years ago. And this arrogant idiot (while telling me not to be an idiot, how ironic) insults me when I'm trying to help him, so instead of properly dealing with the problem or apologizing, was bringing in even more of the traffic instead of blocking it, because "he's the number one blogger, AMEN!". If you look a bit around, he's even replying to bot comments as they were real or to fake/sarcastic comments that I made praising him just to pull his chain and prove a point on how gullible and narcissistic he can me. I didn't had anything with the guy, actually wished him well, but don't give yourself too much importance when you're actually getting the wrong type of attention (bot spam and DDOS-ing to be clear, since I see you're a website owner as well).
