* BingoBoingo disappointed danielpbarron was not congratulated by pete [00:07]
mod6: lol, totally thought it was about dpb too [00:08]
asciilifeform: http://trilema.com/2016/the-story-of-elliot-rodger-by-elliot-rodger-adnotated-part-nine << oh hey! [00:25]
deedbot: http://trilema.com/2016/the-story-of-elliot-rodger-by-elliot-rodger-adnotated-part-nine/ << Trilema - The Story of Elliot Rodger. By Elliot Rodger. Adnotated. Part Nine. [00:31]
BingoBoingo: Aha, yeah. Everyone knows that a transmission is necessary for a functioning moral psychology to develop from engine. [00:39]
mircea_popescu: lol. i'm off to bed. discussions tomorro! [01:03]
BingoBoingo: "Imagine if he actually had sex, somehow, and thereby discovered that most young girls could comfortably fit his sex as well as a friend's. It wouldn't even be stretching. Then what!" << Then she demands his whole hand inside her and he hecomes Eliot Slippyfist, and James lives happily ever after. [01:21]
Framedragger: ctrl+f girl in http://abclocal.go.com/three/kabc/kabc/My-Twisted-World.pdf -> 540 matches [05:57]
Framedragger: ctrl+f virgin in http://abclocal.go.com/three/kabc/kabc/My-Twisted-World.pdf -> 70 [05:57]
Framedragger: and (seems so far) zero comments about subject matter "studied" at "college" [05:58]
Framedragger: really, dafuq. [05:58]
Framedragger: oh btw, saturday night while walking around town (vilnius) with two other peeps i stumbled into a scene: [06:44]
Framedragger: kinda scrawny guy running not far from us, a cop chasing him from a distance. guy turns a corner, then suddenly stops, turns around, throws his hands in the air, and maybe thrice shouts clearly: "i'm sorry", "i yield". we wait. [06:44]
Framedragger: cop arrives, shouts something like (i think) "where's the watch?!!", there's maybe half a sec of a pause (guy's arms still in the air), then the guy is thrown onto the ground, cop takes out a device and tazes the fella who in turn bellows in pain. i start filming (but all too late as it is with these things). [06:45]
Framedragger: cop then asks for "reinforcement", we wait, another cop arrives, and they take the guy away, in handcuffs. [06:45]
Framedragger: we consider, then put a can of beer left in the bag somewhere in a corner just in case, and proceed to the police station to file a complaint because why the fuck not. [06:45]
Framedragger: arrive at small station which is nearby. a kind of kusturica scene unfolds: the victim of the robbery - or a friend of the victim, it was not ever clear as there was too much shouting and the guy was drunk - sits at a desk. three cops in the room. [06:46]
Framedragger: three of us enter and my friend asks the cop behind the counter whether it would be possible to get a complaint form and file a complaint regarding police behaviour / misuse of force. [06:46]
Framedragger: the cops react slowly and uncertainly not so with the poor fella sitting and obviously overhearing. "dudes! you what - what the fuck now. i was *attacked*! five hundred euro watch! [something, etc.] and you want to *defend* this guy??" [06:46]
Framedragger: no we don't, this is a separate matter, [interjections with drunken shouts], the guy was arrested after all [interjections], the arrest was improper, etc. [06:46]
Framedragger: meanwhile the most senior cop is chatting with my friend who has trouble discerning words due to said shouting. at one point i hear "wasting our time" (of course). the youngest of the three cops there comes to us, says "men, thank you very much for your help", and kinda extends hands to push us away (but no physical contact). [06:47]
Framedragger: my friend continues to chat with the senior cop calmly. said cop asks "so did the guy really not resist [as in, maybe he did resist a bit]" - "no he really did not resist". ok. [06:47]
Framedragger: i recognize the middle of the three cops there who is (of course) the dude who did the tazing. he tells the shouting poor fella to calm down and that "they will change their mind when this happens to them". then grunts something and is dissatisfied obviously. [06:47]
Framedragger: meanwhile the fella in question starts saying "he was too *tame*", and (sic) "in soviet times the guy would have had it so much worse!!" (with glee, etc.) (i don't know, this is kinda kusturica-like to me) [06:47]
Framedragger: the fella then approaches us (and my friend in particular who is insisting on raising a complaint with the other cop), half a metre now maybe, and says "you take your watch off", "what are you thinking defending him", etc. the cops slowly react by gently pulling the fella away. not without a pause first [06:48]
Framedragger: finally the senior cop says that there is a procedure but ideally it should be raised with a neutral policeperson and he'd be "biased" here. he says this can be done online (and it indeed can). after some more back and fourth and with the fella still full of angst we decide to file the thing online and bid goodbye. [06:48]
Framedragger: later tell phf you may consider https://www.scaleway.com/pricing/ instead of digitalocean, or at least give it a try as one of them "bot mirrors" that you'd mentioned. there "BareMetal" (didn't try) and VPS (down below - works as advertised, no formal benchmarks tho). cheap. [06:59]
gribble: The operation succeeded. [06:59]
Framedragger: (they're part of online.net, their peering is decent (though i've not used them much) http://map.online.net/ ) [07:05]
* mircea_popescu waves at Framedragger [09:05]
mircea_popescu: GET A BLOG, sinner. [09:05]
shinohai: lel [09:05]
mircea_popescu: :p [09:06]
Framedragger: mircea_popescu: i think i'm finally... about to... get the point :// [09:09]
mircea_popescu: lol. [09:11]
mircea_popescu: in other lulz, the story of poor covertress is something else. so the woman comes here to you know, interact with the republic on her own terms. because she's a woman and a person ("an officer and a gentleman"!) and therefore may even have her own terms. everyone may! what's this, rape ? [09:11]
mircea_popescu: then the republic proceeds to tell her the future. just like that, nude. but she's too busy keeping up the pretense of existence to notice this. besides, who's ready to interact with such ontologic monstrosities ? really, immediate access to fate, this is a thing ?! [09:11]
mircea_popescu: then her future comes to pass. and she's still too busy with the pretense to notice. because the one thing usianism does is give people something to be busy with. it's not particularly effectual at the direct effect, you know, doing something for them. but it is damned effective at KEEPING THEM BUSY so they don't notice. which is... just as good ? [09:11]
mircea_popescu: they're not, technically speaking, other lulz, but aaaaanyway. [09:11]
shinohai: señor popescu is lulzy on blogotron [09:11]
Framedragger: she does seem insist on some form of deliberate unconciousness huh. the words of the people telling her things just kinda wash away [09:12]
Framedragger: this particular type of lack of self awareness in a broader context of "where am i" really ties well with the elliott dude, i dunno, some kind of deeper similarity imo [09:13]
Framedragger: s/insist/to insist/ && s/unconciousness/unconsciousness/ i hate typos [09:14]
mircea_popescu: Framedragger there's really very little optionality involved. everyone has to approach everything on their own terms ~because that's all they have~. only god and anthropologists can approach things on THEIR own terms. [09:14]
mircea_popescu: take the general "entrepreneur", take paul biggar as a much better example. the kid is definitely intelligent. he wants to be an entrepreneur. which is a word, which has a meaning. he proceeds to usianize. this FAILS TO DELIVER, but a decade later he is STILL doing it. and apparently hasn't noticed ANYTHING about any of this. why not ? [09:16]
Framedragger: false belief in existence of optionality of how to approach things "on my own terms", i guess you could say? [09:17]
mircea_popescu: maybe. [09:19]
Framedragger: (in unrelated lol, a remittance solution / bank transfer service just emailed me with the words "Yeah! We’ve just sent your money!" in the subject line. i dunno, something about the tone resembling "fuck yah bro i just finished the vodka!!" doesn't inspire confidence) [09:20]
mircea_popescu: it's more than that. it's also a lengthy list of "technology". it goes like this : "to make the earth banana shaped, buy this and bury it in the desert. then the next full moon measure the parallax of neptune with this tool. then depending on that paralax go into any of these states...." and then there's an endless list of further instructions. [09:20]
mircea_popescu: basically they can keep busy forever and never notice they're not doing anyting. [09:20]
mircea_popescu: the usg invented the non-halting program. [09:20]
Framedragger: heh! usg is undecidable. and keeps giving its people tools to try more things [09:22]
mircea_popescu: yep [09:22]
mircea_popescu: and i can try to breach it any way i want. trilema is full of it. there's a "oh, you'e in online marketing ? here's how i got millions of ''clicks'' worth whatever you pay for them, free". mayn't notice. "can't say nigger ? here." mayn't!!11 "oh you think so and so about education/rape/whatever ?" MAYNT!!111 [09:22]
mircea_popescu: there's at least two dozen articles on trilema of which any single one would be sufficient to end the world as it is among a thinking set. [09:22]
mircea_popescu: i have no idea how one can seriously bayesianize after http://trilema.com/2016/multivariate-calculus-for-experts/ for instance. [09:23]
Framedragger: trilema as tool to cause epilepsy in dogmatized "free democratic" people does seem to be a thing, hm [09:23]
mircea_popescu: BUT! the dissonance field is strong. safely keeps each egg slowly rotting by itself in its own wrapper. [09:23]
mircea_popescu: Framedragger watch that not one single luminary of the "modern democracy" derpage is going to engage the elliot story. there's at least a million of these "officer & gentleman" idiots who think themselves intellectuals and with something relevant to say, and you know, understanding of nature and society. [09:24]
mircea_popescu: but all that is predicated on never actually engaging the real problems, of course. [09:24]
mircea_popescu: ah da fuck, log is dead ? [09:26]
mircea_popescu: STILL ? [09:26]
shinohai: bwahahahaha [09:26]
mircea_popescu: so how am i going to read it and reference things now. [09:26]
* shinohai jhvh1 lurks [09:26]
mircea_popescu: phf is out of the fucking band. [09:26]
mircea_popescu: shinohai you got it to !~ yet ? [09:26]
shinohai: no i decided to vacation too. mine bitched too much [09:27]
mircea_popescu: sigh. [09:27]
shinohai: lobbes wins on that count [09:27]
mircea_popescu: Framedragger did you have a working log thing ? [09:27]
trinque: before we go reimplementing bots the rest of our lives, remember that I published one that logs [09:27]
Framedragger: everyone's on fuckin vacation it seems [09:27]
trinque: writing $seen for it is trivial. [09:28]
mircea_popescu: i'm gonna have to fucking change all my references on trilema AGAIN ? what the fuck already. [09:28]
trinque: I'd prefer just feeding phf logs in some manner [09:28]
Framedragger: mircea_popescu: i have the web side of things, more or less, though it *was* a quick hack. http://log.mkj.lt/trilema/today you can select ranges, too, like http://log.mkj.lt/trilema/20160829/from:15/to:26#15 [09:28]
mircea_popescu: no dude no more of these quick hacks sorta-kinda-i'm not really involved bs. [09:29]
Framedragger: yeah giving phf logs from multiple places and having a mechanism for this would be nice [09:29]
mircea_popescu: wtf is wrong with you people. [09:29]
Framedragger: hey i wrote this for myself for when phf is out in his desert ) [09:29]
mircea_popescu: naturam expellas v, tamen usque recurret. [09:29]
mircea_popescu: it is the nature of the boy "interested in computers" to no do anything useful with his hands, what. [09:30]
trinque: http://trinque.org/2016/08/11/logbot-genesis/ << speaking of v [09:30]
shinohai: pogotron is capable of hosting bot + serv logs [09:31]
trinque: I did not take this on because phf volunteered his thing. [09:31]
mircea_popescu: are you aware that this inane behaviour is why everything you don't like about the world ? this is why you don't get the same tax breaks as actual professionals. this is why the entire field is dominated by "management" that pisses on your heads. this is ALL OF IT, here. right fucking here. [09:31]
mircea_popescu: "oh i can't commit because what if i did!" [09:31]
mircea_popescu: trinque can ye get a www log thing that actually works ? [09:32]
trinque: yup. [09:32]
Framedragger: mircea_popescu: did you try mine though? the web side of thing. it *does* work, fwiw [09:32]
mircea_popescu: please do. i'd like to read Framedragger novella. [09:32]
mircea_popescu: Framedragger i won't try yours, because i just said i'm not interested in this "it works, no promises though" approach to anything. it's not a way to live. i'm not committing downstream to your napkin doodle. [09:33]
Framedragger: here it is "range-selected": http://log.mkj.lt/trilema/20160829/from:76/to:90#76 [09:33]
Framedragger: god damn it. i shouldn't have said "hack". should have said "elegant in its simplicity". 'cause it's simple. and i do fix bug reports. o well [09:33]
mircea_popescu: well ? [09:34]
Framedragger: antiadvertised myself [09:34]
mircea_popescu: the point is, do you have any self-respect or don't you ? [09:34]
Framedragger: sure i do. [09:34]
mircea_popescu: alright, then i'ma inhibit trinque for the i dunno, fifth time and give your thing a try. [09:34]
* mircea_popescu admires trinque for his mental resiliency. [09:35]
Framedragger: look, it sounds like an excuse, but i assumed that phf's btcbase will remain the canonical viewer. making extended effort at redundancy *is* sometimes inefficient, even if educational. [09:35]
mircea_popescu: i assumed so, but i've had it with this "oh, you can't process the logs when you have time to process the logs because logviewer software is made by argentina." [09:35]
Framedragger: fair enough. [09:36]
trinque: Framedragger: what are you using to feed it? [09:36]
Framedragger: trinque: znc (znc's logs) [09:36]
Framedragger: super simple. no db [09:36]
Framedragger: works, tho [09:36]
mircea_popescu: and if you lose connection ? [09:36]
Framedragger: znc autoreconnects. empirically tested [09:37]
mircea_popescu: god damned it, now i'm gonna have to fish out old logs for a yet another time ? grrr. [09:37]
trinque: I propose we get a domain going elsewhere which we cname to whichever current log viewer. [09:37]
trinque: logs.trilema.com ? [09:37]
Framedragger: but if people decide to actually use it then i should implement "previous day browser / buttons" asap because the current (choose from list of days) thing is really too simplistic. [09:38]
mircea_popescu: heh. yeah, see ? exactly what i said above : this is why management pisses on heads etc. because the only solution to unreliable knaves is centralism. [09:38]
asciilifeform: <mircea_popescu> god damned it, now i'm gonna have to fish out old logs for a yet another time ? grrr. << the cure is that infrastructural items oughta be published. [09:38]
mircea_popescu: trinque published. [09:38]
asciilifeform: incl. old logz balls, viewer, etc. [09:38]
asciilifeform: aha. [09:38]
asciilifeform: trinque had the right idea all along. [09:38]
Framedragger: would be nice. talking of it, makes sense to put more CNAMEs under .trilema.com. [09:38]
mircea_popescu: the curse is that "software boys" dun like to read. [09:38]
mircea_popescu: Framedragger it makes absolutely no fucking sense whatsoever. [09:39]
mircea_popescu: if i was going to play with little plastic figurines i'd buy those! [09:39]
Framedragger: well, just as an alias system, no implied centralization? [09:39]
* trinque admits the knaves growing up is the better case [09:39]
mircea_popescu: Framedragger the universal problem with the alias system is that no two identical things exist in this world. [09:39]
asciilifeform: if phf had published his thing, it ~might~ suddenly be conceivable that his eternal bug would be fixed. and at any rate a spare bot could be fired up on short notice. [09:40]
trinque: at any rate, I'm going to dedicate my time to peeling the wot mechanics into their own lisp system, such that I can publish that next, rather than log viewer. that is, provided Framedragger delivers. [09:40]
mircea_popescu: trinque sounds like a plan. [09:40]
Framedragger: okok, enough with the not-committing shit. i agree, and apologize for getting on people's nerves, possibly. i will extend the thing's features. complaints and requests welcome [09:41]
mircea_popescu: Framedragger does your url system follow the same structure as present log ? [09:41]
Framedragger: you mean permalinks to any given irc line? no. i don't know how phf's numbers work but can probably dig it out [09:42]
mircea_popescu: god damned it. so really, aliasing won't fucking work here no matter what. [09:42]
Framedragger: if it's a deterministic system and not based on some internal db id increment thing then it can and probably should be replicated. [09:42]
mircea_popescu: Framedragger ok, don't bother, i'll just re-redo the fucking references. and you'll have to re-redo them in the log itself also. but that'll be it. [09:42]
mircea_popescu: please make sure that this third is also last time. [09:42]
Framedragger: alright. [09:43]
Framedragger: mircea_popescu: wait, you mean rewriting references to log lines in your (e.g.) blog? understand, i didn't retrospectively import *past* logs into the viewer yet. (but i will, now.) [09:44]
mircea_popescu: yes that's what i mean. and yes. [09:44]
mircea_popescu: i'm not doing it THIS INSTANT, you got a week or w/e [09:44]
asciilifeform: how long is phf's vacation anyway [09:45]
mircea_popescu: odds are he's gonna check in about an hour to vacation-ruining news. WHCH SHOULD BE A FUCKING LESSON TO ALL!!11 [09:46]
asciilifeform: perhaps this'll be enough to cure him of cmucl. [09:46]
Framedragger: too many parentheses!!! (*ducks*) [09:46]
asciilifeform: http://trilema.com/forum-logs-for-25-aug-2016#2155897 , http://btcbase.org/log/2016-08-25#1529356 [09:47]
Framedragger: mircea_popescu: should i then proceed to implement the bot-part of the logs, too? if phf's bot part can be reused, then that's great, too. i guess i can investigate [09:48]
asciilifeform: cmucl is, as i now know, a stinking pile of shit, that pisses away the main upside of using common lisp in the first place: it reintroduces segfault [09:48]
Framedragger: or if phf wants to handle that part, or w/e [09:48]
trinque: god damned it [09:48]
mircea_popescu: Framedragger which bot part ? [09:49]
trinque: I FUCKING PUBLISHED A LOGGING BOT. [09:49]
asciilifeform: he did ^ [09:49]
asciilifeform: publish a log bot! [09:49]
* mircea_popescu gives trinque more dakka [09:49]
trinque: dude lets just be the fucking republic of irc bots [09:49]
asciilifeform: http://trinque.org/2016/08/11/logbot-genesis [09:49]
Framedragger: i mean, irc bot that *quotes* log lines. [09:49]
trinque: no shit huh? [09:50]
Framedragger: trinque: ah fuck, sorry, i'm used to my state explaining what there is in the world, i guess :// [09:50]
mircea_popescu: http://trilema.com/2011/i-need-moar-dakka/ < there. [09:50]
trinque: ahaha [09:50]
trinque: Framedragger: so if you take a look at that there logbot... new logs are shat into postgresql. lines to be spoken by bot are read from another table. [09:52]
mircea_popescu: the most important point : and if you make changes to it, V THEM [09:53]
mircea_popescu: and don't even fucking "oh i'll v them later". the whole point of v is to teach you how to code like a sane person. [09:53]
trinque: right. in this case I challenge anyone to find a need for a second patch on those modules themselves, rather than creating a genesis vpatch for their own module which talks to the db in postgres. [09:54]
trinque: idea is that wotbot functions have a genesis vpatch, google whatever, its own v tree, so on [09:54]
trinque: they're completely decoupled [09:54]
trinque: so unless I made a mistake in ircbot (maybe I did) it's *done* [09:54]
trinque: logbot, idem [09:54]
mircea_popescu: the strong, quiet type. [09:56]
Framedragger: trinque: great, and that sounds like a very sane design. [09:56]
Framedragger: just ftr / in truth, when i mentioned "implementing the bot part", i only meant implementing the particular "cite irc lines etc" functionality on top because the rest is done. in particular, the best solution (before checking out trinque's) seems to be limnoria, which is an updated and maintained extension of supybot (which gribble uses). [09:58]
Framedragger: limnoria is written in python. of course there is incentive for teh republic to use republic's own inventions, no doubt. [09:58]
mircea_popescu: there... isn't. [09:58]
trinque: there is no incentive for acting sanely here [09:58]
Framedragger: trinque: thanks and will take a look [09:58]
mircea_popescu: see line above re centralism. [09:59]
Framedragger: i mean a simpler thing: if people here trust each others' code more, that's a good thing, and *all other things being equal* (crucial assumption), that code should be preferred. no? [09:59]
mircea_popescu: but to the more general point, the system provides no incentives for acting sanely for any peculiar definition of sanity, and provides shocking, oversized downside for fucking up. this is exactly as it should be : sanity as an emergent behaviour out of defined limitations of the world. it is exactly opposite of how the empire tries to work, of course, and in the process turns everyone into a version of elliot. [10:00]
Framedragger: cf. other open sores stuff maintained by open sores people in no-one's wot here. [10:00]
trinque: no. trust because it's good code, then know who to blame for the good code [10:00]
trinque: or conversely [10:00]
trinque: and not trust then get your dick out and dive in blind [10:01]
Framedragger: right, sure, of course. [10:01]
Framedragger: aha, a different initial preference, and i see the danger in the converse - sure [10:01]
mircea_popescu: trinque you're defactoing postgress as data interface ? [10:05]
Framedragger: trinque: out of curiosity, have you tested how well ircbot reconnects to irc? i see there exists `ircbot-reconnect`. logbot itself only exports that symbol but does not seem to use it itself? [10:05]
Framedragger: (aha, the reconnect method gets called in a separate ping thread, it seems) [10:06]
trinque: mircea_popescu: for all my bot functions, yes. this is however why ircbot preceeds logbot. ircbot simply establishes and maintains connection, and one can attach to cl-irc hooks for whatever he wants. [10:06]
Framedragger: very nice design, from first looks [10:07]
trinque: Framedragger: when you deploy, disable the sbcl debugger and put it in runit, a process manager [10:08]
Framedragger: (scratch that comment about logbot, it's not supposed to use it itself) [10:08]
mircea_popescu: trinque i meant more as a philosophical point than necessarily in this implementation. [10:08]
mircea_popescu: we will have to have a dxi standard anyway. [10:08]
trinque: yes, it's what I use for just about everything I build [10:08]
asciilifeform: it's the 1 remaining working sqltron. [10:08]
Framedragger: trinque: i'll test it, cool thanks. [10:08]
mircea_popescu: let's call this a de-facto postgres-as-republic-data-exchange-interface rfc. [10:08]
asciilifeform: it's postgres or 'let's now write our own db' [10:09]
Framedragger: asciilifeform: seconding that. the devs seem to know what they do, too (postgres-hackers is a nice ML) [10:09]
mircea_popescu: iirc it was vaguely discussed befoar. [10:09]
trinque: asciilifeform: aha [10:09]
mircea_popescu: asciilifeform trilema uses mysql, of course. but i'm thinking migrating wp to postgres may actually be a good idea. [10:09]
Framedragger: does wp *finally* postgres? last i used it i had to use mysql :/ [10:09]
Framedragger: *finally* support, meant [10:10]
mircea_popescu: Framedragger there's a mp-wp ancient script thing shinohai was massaging. [10:10]
asciilifeform: Framedragger: i use wp, and have never used mysql, and don't intend to. [10:10]
Framedragger: ah! nice. [10:10]
mircea_popescu: all software names should start with my [10:11]
mircea_popescu: mycrosoft! [10:11]
asciilifeform: hey, mykotronx. [10:12]

mircea_popescu: yet this kid fails at the fail! he can't even do the thing you're not supposed to be doing because "it's easy, you'll do it later, got better things to do now" [10:30]
mircea_popescu: http://log.mkj.lt/trilema/20160829/from:76/to:88#76 << eh he's right. you gotta beat up thieves what. [10:34]
mircea_popescu: i mean good for you for standing up to things and so on but in general seems the effort was misplaced. not like they killed the guy. there are two important strands : [10:35]
BingoBoingo: <mircea_popescu> BingoBoingo "limp penis WITH collapsed" << fck ty fxd [10:36]
mircea_popescu: one that submission ~shouldn't~ be encouraged. so what if he didn't resist ? fuck him. if you make a difference by "did he resist", the life lesson you teach thieves (ie, everyone poor, which is how this goes) is that submission is a valuable trait. then you get unfucked women and usg-style government. [10:36]
mircea_popescu: the other is that it is the job of the police to distribute violence. if you don't let them beat up thieves, and cover them in red tape, they'll just get frustrated that frustration will keep boiling and boiling and eventually you'll end up with the us situation, which is to say no real cops (a cop is always and everywhere a BEAT cop! that's police work. naught else.) and a bunch of derps hoping to be SWAT. and again you ge [10:38]
mircea_popescu: t usg-style government. [10:38]
mircea_popescu: you want neither of these, presumably, so the right move'd have been to cheer the policeman, and insulate him from his boss/derpy kids. ie, what the drunken guy did. [10:38]
mircea_popescu: the world is SO unfair, but often enough in practice experience unthinking beats naivite even should it be allied with all the wit in the world. [10:39]
deedbot: http://qntra.net/2016/08/slight-bump-in-bitcoin-network-difficulty/ << Qntra - Slight Bump In Bitcoin Network Difficulty [10:42]
BingoBoingo: "Do those buildings even lift ? " << No [10:43]
Framedragger: mircea_popescu: regarding first strand, no objection, in principle. that is, encouraging submission in itself my breed larger problems and usg-like structures. regarding latter, yeah i have a problem with cops as such. knowing that this will only solidify my "wannabe naive anarchist kid" image, i should point out that if we had a more responsible, (actually) individualist and conscious populace, there would be less need to defer violence [10:46]
Framedragger: the drunk dude would have tried to swing back, and neighbours would have come to help, and punch the thief. i do of course realize (or so i think) the *vast* naivete of this kind of frame of mind, but note that this is possible in some specific communities which take a piss on "global awareness projectz" and just function on a (very) limited geographical scale. [10:46]
Framedragger: besides, the cops as force decoupled from very shitty state != the cops as they currently exist. i don't trust the fucking state to manage them, and next time i write about how shit it is i don't want to expect a buncha these dudes to break in and "teach me a lesson in being putin spy by criticizing our great country". [10:49]
mircea_popescu: the notion that "x precondition would make violence less relevant" is exactly equivalent to saying "if we had more pious women we'd have less need to defer to fucking" [10:52]
mircea_popescu: dude, what ? it's not how it works! [10:52]
mircea_popescu: moreover, the neighbours do not come to punch people in the street because they have work to do. raising a militia was expensive even in 1700. today it's very fucking expensive. hence the police, ie, standing militia. [10:54]
mircea_popescu: and finally : your acts as described build towards that future. you HELPED the state gain larger control over the cops at that small preceinct. because now, whenever the state compes up with some dumb shit, the middle cop will be "we ain't gonna do this are we ?" and the older cop, thinking of you sad lot, will say "yeah we gotta, otherwise there'll be some ipad kids in here complaining". [10:55]
mircea_popescu: generally, thinking back to the whole "giant sitting in chair" discussion of supermarkets - the state always and everywhere tries to drive a wedge between you and its instrument. specifically, it tries to leverage the scale issue (see http://trilema.com/2009/de-ce-nu-mi-place-capitalismul/#selection-49.0-49.163 ) : you are many and impredictible its instruments could kill it. [11:00]
mircea_popescu: what the state always tries is to leverage the impredictability of you to befear its instruments. hence all the charade of "elections". they're not there for YOU to do anything. they're there because a) you're the sort of idiots who would think they're doing something when in fact you're brownian-motioning around and b) this sickening display strikes fear in the hearts of the pretorian guard. who could otherwise easily walk i [11:01]
mircea_popescu: n and hang the lizards by their guts one day. which they know - from bitter experience, this has happened before. [11:01]
mircea_popescu: therefore actual anarchism, in the sense of "anti-statism" is exactly not what you do (ie, act in the direction and on the rails the state provides to you for its own purposes), but exactly the opposite : insulate the instruments from the alleged power center. [11:02]
mircea_popescu: the behaviour is universally called "corruption" in the state-owned press. because they loathe it. but whenever you close an economic circle with the tools of the state against or in spite of the state, you win. which is why i always bribe trafic cops, and don't even live in places where people generally don't. [11:02]
mircea_popescu: those people are idiots. [11:02]
mircea_popescu: what you're stuck doing in those places is what happened to eg poor lawsky, and others : you are stuck proving to the tools that their state can't protect them. which is why the mexican cartels spent a while beheading "high ranking police officials". [11:05]
mircea_popescu: or as alf put it, "discomfort the comfortable" [11:05]
mircea_popescu: note that much like the elections, the bribes themselves are a null value : yeah the average american is too fucked up in the head to bribe traffic cops. yet both in america and in india, the same % of gdp travels as bribes for traffic cops. except in india it is personal whereas the us derps JUST TAKE YOUR CASH. [11:06]
mircea_popescu: so : stop looking where the hand points, start looking at the hand's sleeves. [11:06]
Framedragger: http://log.mkj.lt/trilema/20160829/from:341/to:342#341 << that's of course a good point - using state's own tools to bring more power to the state *is* lame, and not optimal... [11:09]

mircea_popescu: the difference between man, such as heemeyer, and institution, such as "the palestinians", "the government" etc, is that the latter is dedicated to what it could do, and the preservation and expansion of that pretense. [12:40]

A startup employee gave his life savings to our CEO. He wasn’t the only one. Another biz dev team bro who was crashing on the CEO’s couch, Bobby, apparently lent Michael five figures too. In disbelief, I asked why he needed money when he has $2M already committed [17:43]
