a111: Logged on 2018-02-22 00:01 phf: ^ comments welcome, hanbot let me know if you have problems getting it working, feedback from mp-wp would be appreciated [07:26]
mircea_popescu: nice [07:29]
shinohai: phf, I also have successfully pressed your vdiff, works fine so far. I excised error.c and error.h from mine in second build, per: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-02-22#1785478 also worked fine. [09:06]
a111: Logged on 2018-02-22 01:00 phf: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-02-22#1785473 << thanks for fast testing! the warning is harmless, i frankly got desensitized to it, and it slipped through the cracks. the entire error.c needs to be cut anyway, but it's a low hanging fruit [09:06]
shinohai: Also, note to mod6, this was tested using new experimental `V` with changes, pm me later if you have questions but all seems to behave correctly. [09:16]

mod6: hue. he went to jared. [13:44]
ben_vulpes: trinque and anyone else interested in colocating with Pizarro, here's a draft contract for review: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/MBQmX/?raw=true [14:23]

a111: Logged on 2018-02-19 14:57 mircea_popescu: then the corresponding can also be implemented (l1 can have any blog added). vaguely curious as to results. [14:33]
ben_vulpes: great now we can get https://www.oglaf.com/feeds/rss/ [14:34]
mircea_popescu: old style clubs' way of working, at any rate [14:34]
mircea_popescu: ben_vulpes i dunno that i could be arsed to read/whatever a contract tbh but do you have a gearlist or anything yet ? [14:35]
ben_vulpes: not yet, still wrapping up the first courier run. when you say gearlist, you mean "machines Pizarro is buying and will lease out"? [14:37]
ben_vulpes: i have one machine that's about to come out of the crate that i'll detail on the blog i'd intended it for vpsen but would also be happy to lease it entire. [14:38]
ben_vulpes: hey mod6 if there's demand for boxes, would you be averse to selling the machines we got for the foundation to pizarro for leasing on? we can always get another couple of machines, it's not as though the two we bought for the foundation are super important to get racked right now i'm sure other folks might be willing to rent 'em out and that'd be a great thing for pizarro's cashflow [14:40]
mod6: Hmm. [14:41]
mod6: Well, first off, those are The Foundation's assets. [14:42]
mod6: There may be some accounting considerations. [14:42]
mod6: Feels like it'd be hairy. Although, I can see the possible necessity. If I can be convinced that the accounting will be simple and straightforward for the public, I'll consider it more. [14:44]
ben_vulpes: i've got a pretty cut-and-dried cost basis for those two machines. it'll look like an line expense for the machines and hardware, followed by a line of income for sale-of-assets matching to the satoshi, plus possibly a token fee to the foundation for assembling them. [14:46]
mod6: The goal for the Foundation is to get 2, 1U rack spaces for machines to host trb + webhost/mirror. [14:52]
mod6: I think the foundation should avoid this sale. [14:55]
ben_vulpes: mk then [14:56]
mod6: I suppose, if we could get the following commitments: 1) Someone in L1 (L2?) to source two new machines [with equiv specs] for The Foundation, delivered to ben_vulpes March 31st. 2) A delivery plan for these two new machines to Pizaroo in .uy. [15:18]
mod6: 3) Pizarro to signoff on 2U reserved for The Foundation. [15:19]
mod6: That may make it satisfactory. [15:19]

mod6: jurov: I sent an email to the ML, but isn't showing up. I can confirm that the clearsigned data verifies on my end. [17:01]
mod6: Lords and Ladies of TMSR~, I am happy to announce the release of my V : version 99993 K. The tarball has been posted to the website http://thebitcoin.foundation : Also, take note, the trb-howto guide linked on The Foundation website has also been updated. [17:02]
shinohai: dibs on first 2 verify [17:04]
mod6: Thanks shinohai [17:08]
shinohai: o7 [17:12]
shinohai: and phf's diff + ur vtron passed a personal vtest 2gether as well [17:12]
shinohai: for my genesis on btcinfo [17:13]
mod6: Thanks for testing shinohai. Very useful work. [17:13]
shinohai: ty [17:15]
mod6: !!up Loren [17:37]
deedbot: Loren voiced for 30 minutes. [17:37]
Loren: I just read the declaration of sovereignty. I found it very interesting, but I'm leaving because I have nothing interesting to say. I've to read the logs first. [17:52]
mod6: Alright [17:53]
mod6: Loren: That's the best approach, happy to see that. Stop back if you have Q's. [17:53]
shinohai: Esperamos que pronto vueltas! [17:54]
spyked: hey mod6, I just checked v99993 using ffa ch1-5 and also used it to test a press of phf's vtools and it works fine. NB: Debian systems are now pretty much broken and won't allow setting the default gpg to v1, so I had to manually replace the gpg calls in v.pl to use gpg1. [17:55]
shinohai: neat spyked ... had any luck w/ w3m-js ? [17:55]
mod6: hey spyked, thanks for testing & the report back. [17:56]
spyked: yw! (also, ty for the release!) [17:57]
mod6: np, yw :] [17:57]
spyked: hi shinohai. I compiled it and ran it, but running trilema js still doesn't work. I've also tried a few other browsers with similar results. I am trying some simpler js snippets to get an idea of what works and what not [17:58]
spyked: will write up a blog post when I'm done [17:58]
mod6: trinque: (and others) let's circle back around and catch up cuntoo sometime in early march. [17:58]

shinohai: neat, thanks! I got weird behavior for most part when i last compiled [17:59]
trinque: mod6: finished item's sitting on my blog, waiting for others to test [17:59]
mod6: yup, i recall. thanks for posting that. I need to go through the steps myself. maybe can do here in the next couple of weeks. [17:59]
mod6: I'd love to see others step up and work through that as well. [18:00]
trinque: would be great. once I've gotten feedback from several folks I'll genesis. [18:00]
spyked: shinohai, my guess so far is that text browsers completely lack window interaction (e.g. scrolling, text highlighting), so they can't do the Trilema bits. but I want to be able to give a proper answer, which requires a bit of debugging. [18:01]
spyked: and there are other things missing, e.g. links2 doesn't do regex parsing. [18:02]
shinohai: im using uxrvt if that matters btw [18:02]
spyked: me too [18:02]
trinque: mod6: contributed kernel configs for good hardware (goes right along with the republic's recommended hardware list) are wanted [18:02]
mod6: Alright, noted. I'm basically using some generics + one that has broadcomm support. [18:03]
mod6: Not sure of those are altogether interesting. But if they are, can throw them somewhere for review. [18:03]
shinohai: https://undeadly.org/cgi?action=articlesid=20180221201856 [18:03]
trinque: nah, idea is that "this is the *correct* kernel config for particular machine M" [18:04]
trinque: and we get a repository of those going. [18:04]
trinque: creates a place for debate on *what's* correct [18:04]
trinque: kernel for machine M1 doesn't need any extra code present for drivers for M2 [18:05]
mod6: Ah, ok. [18:06]
mod6: Sure, let's circle back around, I'll send what i've got. others can send theirs too. [18:06]
mod6: republic needs its own os. [18:06]
mod6: also to go along with pizarro's hardware, etc. [18:07]
trinque: quite [18:07]
mircea_popescu: ben_vulpes for instance or machines pizarro thinks are worth racking, with pros and cons. or anything really. [18:31]
mircea_popescu: spyked speaking of broken : "modern system" means that if you restart x, all gui apps die. [18:33]
mircea_popescu: because why just fucking restart x. [18:33]
mircea_popescu: and also, why the fuck would text browser lack highlighting. how's it supposed to even work. [18:34]
mircea_popescu: mod6 it is incorrect to start with the pie-in-sky "own os" though. it is instead correct to start with a catalogue of usable if unideal extants. [18:35]
mircea_popescu: !~later tell loren good idea to get your key in wot anyway otherwise the eventual "loren" will still be a day old item [18:36]
jhvh1: mircea_popescu: The operation succeeded. [18:36]
mod6: mircea_popescu: ah, ok. [18:37]
mod6: ohhh 'un-ideal'. gotcha. was thinking "what does unideal mean?!" [18:41]
mircea_popescu: not ideal :p [19:04]
mod6: :] [19:09]
mod6: over-thought that WAY too much [19:09]
hanbot: in today's lols, i go to make the new vdiff, i get http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/WoPts/?raw=true [20:20]
mod6: huh. did everything press ok? [20:24]
shinohai: II removed the error message thingy and works fine for me now, nothing: http://wotpaste.cascadianhacker.com/pastes/3MUUj/?raw=true [20:30]
hanbot: mod6 yeah [20:34]
mircea_popescu: ben_vulpes to explain what i mean : there's some reality the contract handles (R) and some actual wording of the contract W. the delta R-W can be brought under an arbitrary value epsilon, but not to zero. the delta epsilon translates in a delta time dT you have to pour into the wringing of this allignment. [20:35]
mircea_popescu: then later, events E that fall within W will take (putatively) less time to resolve than events E' that fall within the epsilon however a) the probability of E'/E is not equal to the factor R/epsilon (but worse) and b) all this requires people actually read W, which is a cost (leaving aside how it's also something some won't pay). [20:35]
mircea_popescu: as in any case the E' will have to be resolved by recourse to the forum, and as b) is not all that insignificant, the dT investment is a poor usage of your limited T resource. [20:35]
mircea_popescu: meanwhile being able to authoritatively answer "buy X, not Y" is very valuable, because unlike the above scenario, where time you expend actually dampens republican affairs (as for every dT you put in, everyone has to put in some d'T as well), this on the contrary leverages : for every dT you put in, everyone DOESN'T have to put in some d''T. [20:35]
mircea_popescu: besideswhich : the "soft consensus" as to http://btcbase.org/log/2018-02-06#1781846 "is no good" has no actual backing and i strongly suspect you couldn't actually explain to me what exactly is wrong with either cpu or motherboard. well... [20:35]
a111: Logged on 2018-02-06 01:57 mircea_popescu: BingoBoingo phf trinque diana_coman so i'm thinking of basically getting a dozen amd fx-8350s (because just 125w compared to say fx-9590s 220) racked in u2 mbs (say maybe ASRock 970M PRO3 ? i thinkl that fits in 2u neh ?) with 64 gb ram each and a coupla ssds ? any complaints/suggestions ? [20:35]
mircea_popescu: hanbot im willing to bet shitty gcc. what version is it ? [20:35]
hanbot: 4.4.3. just saying. [20:36]
mircea_popescu: heh [20:37]
ben_vulpes: mircea_popescu: very sensible, ty [21:33]
* ben_vulpes bbl, sister got engaged, bubblestiem [21:35]
phf: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-02-23#1785630 << naturally. i'll see if i can reproduce it [22:01]
a111: Logged on 2018-02-23 01:20 hanbot: in today's lols, i go to make the new vdiff, i get http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/WoPts/?raw=true [22:01]
hanbot: phf anyway re your footnote four, i think it looks great, and stolen takes one l, though "stollen from elsewhere" sounds delicious [22:23]
mircea_popescu: also stallin [22:23]
phf: a ty [22:39]
mircea_popescu: phf so what is the call on republican alphabetic order ? "all strings are made of bytes and the byte order is the alphabetic order" ? [23:39]
mircea_popescu: specifically in our case, dot (2e) comes after dash (2d) ? [23:41]
