lobbes: mircea_popescu: in updates, I've got the #trilema back-logs (back to 2016-03-28) importing into my test blog now: http://blog.ericbenevides.com/2016/03/trilema-log-for-2016-03-28/ [07:11]
lobbes: I'm going to let it run during the night and will hopefully wake up to 4 years of #t logs in a blog. Feel free to poke at it and lemme know if you'd like any tweaks/edits [07:11]
lobbes: I can already see that there are some odd formatting issues with the loglines sometimes overlapping the sidebar, but that may just be caused by my own wp-mp install [07:12]
lobbes: There also appears to be an issue with the line ordering in places, but I think I know where to look for that [07:12]
* lobbes is off to get some sleep. bbl [07:12]
mircea_popescu: lobbes, cool, ty. [10:54]
mircea_popescu: and yeah, that's the point, trial by fire as it were [10:54]
mircea_popescu: later today ima put logs up to 28th march 2016 on trilema proper then, should be fun. [11:04]
mircea_popescu: BingoBoingo, you know it's punitive not punative. [11:20]
mircea_popescu: think of "the punic wars". not punac, rite. [11:21]
ave1: I'am looking for a longer description of +ev and -ev. I remember reading about it either here in the log or on trilema, but so far no luck. I.E. it seems to be missing from the 2016 thesaurus (http://trilema.com/2016/republican-thesaurus-with-vocabulary-and-dictionary/). [14:45]
ave1: and I think there was an update on that list in 2018, but I'm simply not finding it.... [14:46]
dorion: ave1 http://trilema.com/republican-thesaurus/ was turned into a "page" [14:50]
ave1: dorion, thx! ev is not in that list. (and so far ev together with energy, equivalent or investment all come up empty) [14:56]
lobbes: ave1: expected value. Game theory I believe [15:03]
spyked: ave1, afaik the term is game-theoretical, i.e. given some "game" scenario involving partial information, where the agent can receive some payoff depending on its actions, it can in principle evaluate an "expected" payoff for some particular actions. since the info is partial, I'm reading "expected" here as "the most likely to occur". but I'd be curious to see a formal definition as well. [15:04]
spyked: dang, lobbes beat me to it [15:04]
* lobbes puts pistol in holster [15:07]
lobbes: http://logs.ericbenevides.com/log/trilema/2019-11-18#1951554 << nifty. Fun is right! 365 articles per year of logs... rss feed is going to get a workout [15:21]

ave1: spyked, lobbes. Thx! [15:35]
BingoBoingo: mircea_popescu: tyvm, fxd [15:52]
mircea_popescu: ave1, ev, Expected Value. [16:57]
mircea_popescu: possibly only ever explicited in http://trilema.com/2012/and-another-one-bites-the-dust-bitmarketeu/?b=This%20is%20how&e=prove%20it#select [16:59]
mircea_popescu: but yes, it's a concept from game theory, mosty as an cybernetics application, because people writing programs to power droid fights or whatever need to put something in the if statements, and that something's better be a scalar. this makes no particular sense besides serving that need, and so it became a tongue in cheek reference for "if one had to assign arbitrary scalar values to so and so thing" [17:00]
BingoBoingo: In other news, mebbe this is that same Buttcoin "sciencehatesyou" chick from back when expanding her rounds? [19:17]

mircea_popescu: seems too industrious for that, nfi [19:47]
mircea_popescu: of course dude gives me a very romanian "intellectual" vibe tbh. [19:48]
mircea_popescu: some kinda http://trilema.com/2011/de-ce-nu-ma-place-beranger-v4/?b=Nu%20reclamele&e=Trilema#select anger, dude keeps running into my ejaculate in his princess or w/e. [19:49]
