mircea_popescu: lobbes that's not even the cannonical item hanbot is working on a no-binary genesis for it on phf's new version vdiff. [00:20]
mircea_popescu: which i don't even recall, was it released yet or ? [00:20]
ben_vulpes: yes but then no [00:31]
mircea_popescu: cannes, you know, "un certain release" [00:32]
ben_vulpes: diana_coman, mircea_popescu: i apologize for the hysteresis in server specs, but i failed to procure the cable i need for the high-throughput raid card in time to board tomorrow. i'm provisioning the machine reserved for your use with a software raid10 for installation this week, but you have the option to wait an uncertain amount of time for me to get the cable down to the dc and reprovision it with a much [00:35]
ben_vulpes: faster hardware raid array. your choice. [00:35]
mircea_popescu: o ffs. software raid ~= virtual blowjob. [00:35]
ben_vulpes: i apologize sincerely. [00:36]
ben_vulpes: i can also abort this provisioning run and install directly to the ssd if you'd prefer [00:36]
mircea_popescu: will hafta get back to you on this, but tis kinda meh! [00:36]
ben_vulpes: i deeply agree. [00:36]
mircea_popescu: install directly to the what now ? [00:36]
ben_vulpes: well there are 4 ssds in the machine, i can install an os to one of them and let you mount the other three however you'd like [00:37]
mircea_popescu: i don't get it, what's os installing to do with anything ? [00:38]
ben_vulpes: 'tis at least a usable machine, if sw raid is so abhorrent thought the option was worth offering. doesn't sound like you have any interest though. [00:40]
mircea_popescu: well, this is a fundamental, at least to me, service pizarro is offering, GENUINE raid. ie, raid installed by republican hands out of genuine components etc. [00:41]
mircea_popescu: pantsuit implementations, be they software or dubiola are all kinda akin from this perspective. akin to nothing at all, that is. [00:41]
ben_vulpes: very useful feedback in nailing down hardware spec, ty [00:42]
mircea_popescu: when are you leaving anyway ? [00:43]
ben_vulpes: tomorrow, late [00:43]
mircea_popescu: an' no raid cables to be found in cascadia ?! [00:43]
ben_vulpes: this is the ass end of nowhere, populated entirely by apple fanbois [00:44]
mircea_popescu: hm. [00:44]
ben_vulpes: think fairbanks but with even fewer useful people [00:46]
ben_vulpes: i have like 2 long shots to try tomorrow [00:47]
mircea_popescu: prolly worth fedexing one to uy address. [00:47]
ben_vulpes: that is one of the things i'm going to try, yeah [00:48]
ben_vulpes: also walking the list of craigslist server vendors emailing any that look halfway competent to see if they have what i need [00:48]
ben_vulpes: "vendors" [00:48]
ben_vulpes: kids disposing of retired servers from the office, really [00:49]
mircea_popescu: who could have ever guessed this economy of the future wasn't going to be all that. [01:22]

mircea_popescu: holy shit, ciclists aren't people. [11:27]
mircea_popescu: so if one day i decide to play golf in the fucking road, that's it, everyone's stuck accomodating my 10mph electric golf cart (in the best of cases, but more generally my 1.2 mph half blind 165yo caddy) ? [11:27]
mircea_popescu: fuck that dumb shit, i don't care some slick scammer sold them on the idea it's a conveyance. it's not more of a conveyance than any fucking kitchen robot, that also sorta-kinda moves around on the countertop. [11:28]
mircea_popescu: i don't see any fucking roman oxcarts plaguing the highways, and i'd better fucking not see any more of these hipster doofuses either. [11:28]
ben_vulpes: someday riding down offending cyclists will no longer be frowned upon and the world will rejoice [11:29]
mircea_popescu: word, ima get a cowgrate on my car, except for the other sort of cow. [11:30]
mircea_popescu: not even ride them down per se, let nature take its course and cripple them instead. [11:31]
ben_vulpes: i'm going to go for the wheel-mounted blades [11:31]
mircea_popescu: hopefully get eaten by dingo pack. in the usual fashion dingos hunt, ie evisceration. [11:31]
* ben_vulpes off on last-ditch shot at component sourcing [11:32]
mircea_popescu: gl [11:32]

ben_vulpes: it's 830, actually [11:33]
mircea_popescu: oh [11:33]
* ben_vulpes once did time in a shop where folks struggled to make the daily check in at 10a [11:33]
mircea_popescu: sometimes i forget this land flattens out towards teh anus. [11:33]
BingoBoingo: <ben_vulpes> it's 830, actually << Ah, you are only traveling 5 hours into the future this week. [11:36]
mircea_popescu: in other news, nikki cardenas (kink.com bills her "skylar price" for some incomprehensible reason) has a great gangbang personality. [11:38]

phf: http://trilema.com/forum-logs-for-05-mar-2018#2412154 http://btcbase.org/log/2018-03-05#1786909 << must've been some miscommunication on my part, but both sha and keccak versions of vdiff, in working state, have been out since last wednesday [13:22]
a111: Logged on 2018-03-05 05:20 mircea_popescu: which i don't even recall, was it released yet or ? [13:22]
a111: Logged on 2018-03-05 05:31 ben_vulpes: yes but then no [13:22]
phf: the release have been branched, and you press to two different heads if you want a sha or keccak version, but specifically for hanbot's purposes, sha vdiff is available, with the "no newline" issue fixed, as per http://barksinthewind.com/2018/vtools-keccak/#selection-95.221-99.40 [13:24]
phf: spyked reported another C attribute annotation issue since then http://btcbase.org/log/2018-03-01#1786600 , but it's yet another compiler/system combination problem, and those who managed to build c vdiff previously should be able to do so still (sans the noreturn and 'no newline' issues) [13:34]
a111: Logged on 2018-03-01 13:52 spyked: anyway, comment was that I managed to compile and run vdiff with small mods error: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/BiBTI/?raw=true and fix patch: http://p.bvulpes.com/pastes/9mOiz/?raw=true (tested this with the generated vdiff) I can try to link this reply later in a comment to test. diana_coman: http://btcbase.org/log/2018-03-05#1786939 <- uhm, hmm, dunno, in South Tyrol they have those great cycling tracks *not in the road of course, completely separate* and it's absolutely great for a day thing: get on bike, cycle up and down the Dolomites for some 2-3 hours, get to a lake, have a rest and a swim, go back in 45 minutes (mostly downhill, fun like hell), sleep like a log [18:00]
a111: Logged on 2018-03-05 16:27 mircea_popescu: holy shit, ciclists aren't people. [18:00]
diana_coman: sort of the skiing of summer in that region I'd say but to the point: cyclists are perfectly people but they don't ride alongside cars - why would one *want* to ride a bicycle among/between/alongside cars, it's nonsense quadrupled [18:04]
ben_vulpes: THE ADRENALINE [18:04]
diana_coman: while breathing exhaust fumes? wtf [18:04]
diana_coman: adrenaline: go down some forest path narrow and steep plenty [18:05]
ben_vulpes: look i'm not arguing that young me was particularly bright or that things have changed much, ok? [18:05]
diana_coman: did you grow up in some big city? [18:05]
ben_vulpes: well, "big", 1.5M if you count most of the exurbs as well [18:06]
diana_coman: yeah, that might explain it of sorts [18:06]
ben_vulpes: mountain biking was a weekend trip sort of thing [18:06]
ben_vulpes: there was a lot of fun unused industrial area along the river for quite some time that yielded all sorts of bikefun, but it's been largely sanitized at this point. [18:07]
* diana_coman used to do precisely as described cycling + swimming that's the main part she's missing of South Tyrol [18:07]
diana_coman: well, the very sunny part was included [18:08]
ben_vulpes: sounds great there was also plenty of biking along the river and jumping in at arbitrary points to be done but! on segregated paths [18:08]
diana_coman: so not enough adrenaline then? on those segregated paths? [18:09]
ben_vulpes: no those are downright idyllic [18:09]
ben_vulpes: gotta get into traffic if you have a death wish [18:10]
diana_coman: heh, I still quite distinctly remember some crazy-speed-racing-bikes on those segregated paths not exactly idyllic, no [18:10]
diana_coman: granted, no motors though, no vroom-vroom [18:11]
ben_vulpes: "springwater corridor" is plenty wide enough for the speed demons to breeze in between groups riding two abreast [18:11]
ben_vulpes: these days folks strap lipos to the bicycles and haul ass at ~motorcycle speeds [18:12]
diana_coman: must be the crowded Europe then: never enough space for lack of adrenaline, lol [18:12]
diana_coman: what's a lipo? [18:12]
* ben_vulpes would like to try [18:12]
ben_vulpes: "lithium polymer" [18:12]
diana_coman: oh [18:13]
diana_coman: but uhm, what's...the...point [18:13]
diana_coman: I mean: get a motorcycle then, no? [18:13]
ben_vulpes: why not take a motorcycle on the bike track for that matter [18:13]
ben_vulpes: motorbikes don't fit in the bike lockup facilities downtown [18:14]
ben_vulpes: also licensing [18:14]
diana_coman: so then getting something almost like a motorcycle but not quite and in any case as fast but pretending to be still a bike sheesh [18:15]
diana_coman: an atv as well I suppose, why not [18:15]
ben_vulpes: it gets worse, not even as fast! [18:19]
diana_coman: lol! [18:21]
BingoBoingo: And lacks cool mudding tread pattern of ATV tires too! [18:21]
