williamdunne Just read this comment from a couple years back, speaks strongly: [00:07]
williamdunne "This is actually a very nice write up. Well done. [00:08]
williamdunne The only really amazing thing to me is that we haven't seen this entry on the list: [00:08]
williamdunne "Shady ROMANIAN character opens up unregistered bitcoin options exchange (complete with HTML from 1993) on his personal website (which also hosts porn) and charges exorbitant fees just to join, while constantly accusing pretty much everyone else in the bitcoin community of being a scammer, and, along with his (possibly virtual) -PR lackey, acts like a loudmouthed douchebag ... but apperantly scams no [00:08]
williamdunne one." (yet?) [00:08]
williamdunne Thank you Mircea for your services to the bitcoin community and for apparently being an honest and trustworthy entrepreneurial businessman. (Making you perhaps the only honest and trustworthy Romanian I know.) [00:08]
williamdunne Moral of the story? It can be hard to judge people." [00:08]
assbot AMAZING COMPANY! [00:08]
williamdunne http://log.bitcoin-assets.com/?date=15-04-2015#1101749 - thanks, pretty interesting. Nice screw up by ANX there [00:09]

BingoBoingo williamdunne: Today I am drinking Vodka to celebrate the advent of more of Bitcoin's history involving MPOE/MPEx than not [00:14]
williamdunne Ah I guess its about 3 years since MPEX and 6 years since bitcoin. Thats like a bank lasting from the 1820s in the fiat world [00:15]
williamdunne I think MPEX needs a logo carved in stone, preferably with some sort of bird of prey on it [00:15]

williamdunne I had (what I think) is an interesting idea the other day. Which could be rather educational for some people and entertaining for others [00:26]
williamdunne A website focussed at schools/universities/whatever, that would allow you to login via Facebook and "anonymously" make posts about other attendees. And then several months into the operation, slowly begin revealing the names of the OPs - with the option of paying a (bitcoin) bribe to have it not revealed [00:26]
williamdunne You just know that if you managed to get a few people on it they would all be dumb enough to sign on with facebook [00:26]
williamdunne See if you can throw some police stations/prisons/parliaments in there [00:27]
mircea_popescu i don't get what would be the point. [00:27]
mircea_popescu you could just as well hire indonesians to write random shit. there's a bunch of "reviews" sites spamming this crap, there was one even discussed in the logs, made an entry about "the bitbet casino" [00:28]
mircea_popescu very cringy-obvious never even saw the site. [00:28]
mircea_popescu supposedly someone cares enough to pay them, but i kinda doubt it's worth anyone's time. [00:28]
williamdunne I thought it would be interesting to see what people are willing to do with anonymity, and what they would pay to keep it [00:29]

danielpbarron He's the only person on Twitter who is regularly posting links to that blog site. So the accounts must be connected somehow. Based on that account's Tweets, there's a lot of hostility towards women, feminists, "SJW's", and women related things. [12:10]
danielpbarron actually can you not approve my previous comment for moderation. i just realized such a post could direct an entire hate mob at a twitter account and that's not responsible for me to do. This guy could just be a fan of the guy who posted the list. I don't have any solid proof, and even if there was, it would be a matter for the victims and the police only. [12:11]

ben_vulpes the normal routine [13:22]
mircea_popescu aha [13:22]
ben_vulpes and ba? [13:22]
ben_vulpes [08:21] so TIL that testnet doesn't behave like main net and will allow blocks of diff 1 to be mined whenever it "has been too long" between two blocks << this testnet stuff is bullhockey [13:22]
ben_vulpes just make an isolated network and watch it go [13:23]
ben_vulpes diddle as desired [13:23]
davout ben_vulpes: ideally configure an arbitrary genesis block in config file [13:23]
ben_vulpes remind me of why the genesis block matters please? [13:24]
ben_vulpes or is this the "rip out all magic constants" thread again [13:25]
davout ben_vulpes: if you want a different testnet you just need a different genesis block and a couple ports of your liking [13:25]
ben_vulpes no, i don't want a different testnet [13:26]
davout well, i do [13:26]
ben_vulpes testnet has diverged so far from mainnet that i don't even really understand the point of it anymore [13:26]
davout so random fucktards can't point their asics at it preventing me from mining with a cpu [13:26]
davout ben_vulpes: define "diverged" [13:26]
ben_vulpes well enlighten my sorely sleep deprived ass - what's the use case for testnet? [13:26]
davout paymium has a staging environment, and a sandbox environment, both run against testnet [13:27]
davout which makes testing easier on a few accounts [13:27]
* virtuals (~virtuals@dsl-prvbrasgw1-58c00c-209.dhcp.inet.fi) has joined #bitcoin-assets [13:27]
ben_vulpes "diverged" << the whole block diff=1 thing, f.ex. [13:28]
davout yea, that's absolutely retarded [13:28]

ben_vulpes mas o menos that it's not actually a proxy for bitcoin anymore [13:28]
ben_vulpes there are odd transaction relay rules etc i think [13:28]
davout ugh, didn't know about that [13:28]
davout if you have a configurable genesis block it removes the need for testnet entirely [13:29]
ben_vulpes yeah there's a mess of branches throughout the codebase that do different things based on "if testnet" [13:29]
ben_vulpes no dude but listen [13:29]
ben_vulpes if you set your staging and sandboxen up with bitcoinds that only talk to other bitcoinds you control that have never seen the mainchain [13:29]
davout testing is for faggots amirite [13:29]
ben_vulpes you've just made your own testnet that's...bitcoin. [13:30]
davout yep [13:30]
davout except i want my customers and partners to use the sandbox for their integrations [13:30]
mircea_popescu testnet has diverged so far from mainnet that i don't even really understand the point of it anymore << exactly. which is what he was saying. [13:30]
ben_vulpes ooh sticky [13:30]
davout the idea is that they can conveniently request coins from the testnet faucet, or mine them, and use them as play money [13:31]
ben_vulpes davout: your integrators should be savvy enough to boot into your private testnet. [13:31]
ben_vulpes mine their own coins. [13:32]
mircea_popescu but it would be a private main net [13:32]
mircea_popescu NOT testnet. [13:32]

danielpbarron The creator of this list claims that he is motivated by the altruistic goal of pressuring Bitlove (the creators of Fetlife) into implementing security fixes to prevent these sort of attacks happening in the future. Unfortunately, the so-called "meat" advertised by the list is comprised exclusively of female-identifying members under the age of 30. [17:29]
danielpbarron The information has been curated for and advertised to an audience of predominantly cis male sexual predators, that now have a well-laid out database of disproportionately vulnerable and inexperienced potential victims who may be unlikely to expose their alternative lifestyle by going to the police or perusing other means of defense.
