Dazed and Confused

Dazed and Confusedi is exactly the sort of film that the marauding left doesn't want to see. Indeed they'd prefer it never existed, and will gladly claim that the reality it depicts either never did actually exist or shouldn't have ever existed.

It existed, exactly as depicted. Moreover it's the fundamental state of affairs, unchanged one whit since the Greeks, unchangeable one whit for the foreseeable and unforeseeable future. America has still not produced a culture, even if it did arguably get half a century or so worth of civilisation in there, before the Chinese took over artefact production. On the scale of things we're discussing here the United States fail to register at all. It's not even a blip, US "progressivism" or however you call the impractical-yet-illiterate hodge-podge of half digested mish-mash & potpourri of French and Jewish ideas is not even a glimmer. It won't be forgotten for as long as I live for the humour value, but otherwise it's already buried (and British new-new-new-new socialism isn't doing any better either).

But let's not get distracted into high considerations. Instead, to recap some chief points :

  • The older boys get a loudspeaker for the only purpose of reminding the younger boys (who are stuck in class) that they'll get beaten up. The reason is contained therein : older boys, younger boys. Everyone knows this is going to happen and accepts it without doubt or protest. The teacher snickers.ii
  • The one girl that works up the gumption to talk to the boypack gets her butt slapped. She weakly protests. The other girls of the girlpack point out to her that she loves getting her butt slapped. Whether she does or she doesn't the peer pressure of either group certainly does lots to help her grow into a comfortable and sexually-adequate social role.
  • Perfectly fuckable teenybopper/congressional aide chick goes on the record stating that, and I quote,

The '68 Democratic Convention was probably the most bitchin' time I ever had in my life.

The teacher (not quite as fresh and understandably a lot more bitter all things considered) meanwhile points out that

Okay, guys, one more thing. This summer when you're being inundated with all this American bicentennial Fourth of July brouhaha, don't forget you're celebrating the fact that a bunch of slave-owning, aristocratic, white males didn't want to pay their taxes.

Wasn't the left a lot more fun back when it was desperately fighting its well known and widely accepted irrelevance while getting her butt slapped in public ? Honestly now.

  • A little more selected dialogue :

All right, you little freshman bitches ! Air raid !
That was pathetic ! Let's try it again ! That means get up, you lazy little bitches ! Get up !
    Air raid !
That was horrible, you slut girls ! You little freshman sluts ! Get up ! Up ! Up ! Up !
    Air raid !

This would be what you call hazing. You know, sorta like bullying in the sense Habaneros are sorta like garlic. Incidentally, did you know hazing has been around for at least three thousand years, and was at some point called something with "Eleusine" in it ? You don't, do you. A well, a reputation for being illiterate isn't something one's simply born into. Being that ignorant takes work.

Are you burning with childish rage yet ? Good. Fuck you.

  2. A black guy in a white shirt with bowtie. Are they mocking you back in 1993, before you even really existed, what do you think ? []
