Shots from a voyage
Not a bad story.
That piece of De Beers scamvertising is making the bold claim that one carat and over diamonds are so rare that less than 1% of women will ever own one. This is of course factually false, but the magazine in question (Architecture Digest, 1998 April edition) is replete with the sort of inanity. Audi advertises its then-recent A8 by stating that platinum plated sparkplugs give the engine its power, and that it's well worth it because why else would they put such a precious material somewhere nobody could see it. As if the miligrams of platinum in a spark plug are in any way related to engine power output or all that expensive.
