The Cold War experts over here are having a ball these days.
Let's see if I can get myself into some sort of boating accident by providing some cliffnotes to the general public.
So, the CIA has pretty much defected.
The rift is old and painful (yes, there's an explanation for Wikileaks, these things don't just happen). Petraeus, the administration's last ditch effort to cure or expunge that rift, turned out to have been a false flag nominationi. His desperate beheading resolved nothing and helped nothing, as the recent Snowden embarassmentii clearly shows.
The Secret Service is by and large on their side, as the recent embarassing of Obama with the live mic trick - oldest in the fucking book - clearly shows. This is by no means surprising, for numerous and complex reasons we won't bother to go into.
The NSA is by and large neutral, and so it's being pressured (by both sides). It's mostly made up of geeks, so they naturally tend to allign with the administration, except in these circumstances that's the losing card.
The other side is principally the Department of Hail Satan. They're blindly loyal to the administration, whatever it might be, simply because they have no skills and no abilities. All they can do is spend money, which they do spend, and the only people willing or able to provide them with infinite checking accounts and Halliburtonesque accountability for expenses made is the administration, whatever it may be. Consequently they will do anything, absolutely anything whatsoever, and this includes sticking with the losing side. Or beheading the first black president. Or absolutely anything else. They have no options.
The only noteworthy conclusion here is that the chances for the US to go through a bloodless coupiii are nil. It will get bloody, it will last years. It may start this summer, such as for instance in August. August is a good month for bloody, drawn out insurgencies, history shows.
I got a boatload of popcorn at the ready. At least if I do get done in by a horrible boating accident, let there be involved a boat full of popcorn.
———- Ie, when you end up nominating one of the mobsters as super-special district attorney specialised on fighting the mob. [↩]
- An embarassment for the administration, it is worth underlining, and in no case "for the US" as clueless print bloggers misrepresent it. [↩]
- Bloodless to the degree the one in CCCP was, a few dead here and there aren't even a statistic. [↩]
