Very convenient, this can be a handy reason to externalize the failure of Mirko when it comes to it. Dully noted.

We also attempted a mirroring, which soon enough ended up manifestly untenable a proposition -- mirroring works for working software ; but the piles of gunk are eminently not working at any particular point in time.

I agree re the downsizing / cutting into parts as an approach, and very much welcome discussion on the specifics.

On the development front, work continues, somewhat complicated by the sobering realisation that the republic is just about ready to mirror its spectacular failure on the software front -- because seriously now, why not stick to what fails.

IMHO, even given a bunch of people committing to this general-purpose OS work full-time, the project remains a very risky endeavour, given the huge cumulated mass of the software involved and (what I see as) the big number of variables that entails. From what I understand, Trinque is himself stuck between two extremes and it's not clear which starting point would work best. Thus IMHO it would be worth at least attempting to figure out how the hell this gargantuan task can be downsized to something human-approachable in a reasonable (for yet-undetermined values of "reasonable") amount of time. I'd previously considered mirroring a Debian, Fedora or whatever repository, but I'm not sure this is the right thing.
