benkay so i'm looking at these "ultimate gpg guides", and they all say to create a new signing subkey with rsa signing only and then delete the secret key. how am i supposed to decrypt without the secret key? is there some other key for en/decryption that gets spun up at the same time? [01:02]
artifexd kakobrekla: Does the voice-by-wot thing take into account the rating provided or just that a rating was provided. If ThickAsThieves rates someone -10, does that still qualify to give them the self-voicing ability. [01:04]
* Skirmant has quit (Ping timeout: 240 seconds) [01:04]

artifexd What if mircea_popescu rates them -5 but ThickAsThieves rates them as 4? Does the balance count or does any positive rating win? [01:06]
mike_c kakobrekla: are you the right person to continue to harass about hooking up atc.blockr & x-bt? [01:06]
kakobrekla either one must be greater than 0 [01:06]

benkay christ on a shitstick [01:09]
benkay mircea_popescu: wouldja take a look at that [01:09]
pankkake benkay: you must be missing the part where the main signing key is saved on another device first [01:10]
pankkake basically the main signing key is only needed to sign your subkeys, and sign others' keys [01:11]
benkay pankkake: is that implicit in the key creation process? [01:11]
pankkake no, it's extremely not user friendly [01:11]
mircea_popescu benkay i don't think you should pay attention to gmaxwell [01:11]
mircea_popescu it's pretty much the only thing it exists for. [01:11]
pankkake also, a good tip would be to make your ~/.gnupg into a git repo, so that you don't fear making mistakes [01:13]
mike_c ok, here's my pitch before i get quieted :) x-bt is awesome, has steady volume (and the most for atc), and atc.blockr would be cooler with those price charts on the top. [01:13]
pankkake (but then if you delete the secret key, delete the .git or it will stay in the history) [01:13]

bounce the existence of elites, at least the part where some people are regarded as "better" than others in some sort of fancy or other, is not bad by and of itself. the problems arise (and I'd surmise egalitarians' complaints partly stem from this) when people work on shutting out other people on essentially arbitrary grounds so as to, well, keep the thing exclusive in ways quite disconnected from the original merit [16:35]
bounce in other words, elites work better when everyone has a comparable shot at getting in and the same risk of getting thrown out. [16:36]
