@ThickAsThieves Not limited to fiction either, various people falling off roofs, that Malai flight and so on (hey check out how eminently bankable it is!). But I suspect the fiction part is yeah, people coping with the death of their world. I'm sure Atlantis had a lot of bizarre art towards the end.

It's funny you mention this now, as there's a peak of "people disappearing/appearing" tv shows over the past coupla years. See: The Leftovers, The 4400, Resurrection

None quite this idea though.

I wonder if it's all a sign of loss-of/desire-to-lose--identity-related fantasy.
