But I mean, what are 90%+ of these payment processed services, ecommerce sites right ? What code, a bundle of php and that's it.

For the Linux binary, static linking works well enough for this purpose, however because of it you can't have a pure 64 bit server IIRC. It doesn't really interact with the web server, you have to run it in your code.
